Theme World Of Self, Family and Friends Topic: Free Time


Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:-
a. answer the questions using short answers with support.
b. ask basic questions with support.

Teaching & Learning Pre-lesson:


Activities 1. Get the pupils to sing the ‘Days Of The Week’ song.
2. Say, e.g. I go swimming at the weekend. Ask the pupils: Do you? Do you go swimming at the
weekend?
3. Prompt a short answer: Yes, I do / No, I don’t.
4. Practise asking and answering questions with the class.
5. Then, pupils ask and answer the same question around the class in open pairs. Provide another
statement, e.g. I play football on Mondays, and continue.

Lesson development:
Activity 1:
1. Distribute worksheets.
2. Get the pupils to talk about the pictures.
3. Play CD2 track 25 SB p61.
4. Play the recording. Pupils point.
5. Play the recording again. Pupils circle the correct words.
6. Check with the class.
Activity 2:
7. Distribute speaking cards.
8. Draw pupils’ attention to the pictures.
9. Guide pupils to ask and answer the questions based on the pictures and the words given.
10. Organise pupils into small groups/pairs.
11. Pupils take turns to practise the question and answers.
12. Teacher randomly calls a few pairs/groups to role-play asking and answering questions.

Post-lesson:
1. Play the “Catch and Answer” game.
2. Write on the board a question from the lesson in jumbled word order for students to unjumble.
3. Pupils read the questions aloud.
4. Randomly throw the ball to one of the pupils.
5. The pupil catches the ball and answer the question.
6. Repeat steps 2-5 a few times.

Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:-
a. listen and understand the story by rearranging pictures in the correct sequence with support.
b. listen to dialogues and identify the characters.

Teaching & Learning Pre-lesson:


Activities 1. Introduce the Four Super Friends and their special powers by showing flash cards.
2. Elicit where the four friends are (in the woods/forest)(pg 62-63)
3. Pre-teach lake and lost. Play the recording. Students listen and read to find out who helps them (rabbit).
4. Play the recording again. Pause after each frame to check comprehension.
5. Talk with the class about the value (asking for help when you need it) and who does it in the story (Whisper in
frame 4).
6. Elicit what he says.

Lesson development:
1. Pupils work in pairs/small groups.
2. Distribute a set of picture cards from the story.
3. Pupils listen to the recording.
4. Next, pupils sequence the pictures according to what they heard in the story.
5. If pupils have difficulty sequencing the pictures encourage them to look at the characters, events and
movements within each picture and think back to what they heard in the story.
6. Once pupils have put the pictures into the correct sequence, replay the recording to see if the pictures are in
the correct order.

Post-lesson:
1. Distribute worksheets.
2. Play the recording.
3. Pupils listen to the dialogues and tickj the corresponding characters.
4. Discuss the answers.

Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:-
a. blend phonemes to form at least words with support.
b. listen and write correctly at least 4 words.

Teaching & Learning Pre-lesson:


Activities 1. Display blending cards on the board. (much and fun)
2. Blend the phonemes and say the words.
3. Pupils listen and repeat.
4. Say the sentence. ‘This isn’t much fun.’
5. Pupils repeat and find the speech bubble in the story.
6. Play the recording. Pupils look at the picture, read and repeat.

7. Repeat the sentences as a class without the recording. Say it loudly, slowly, quickly, whisper it
etc.

Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:-
a. write at least 5 correct sentences using capital letters and full stops.
b. listen to the recording and answer correctly at least 4 questions.

Teaching & Learning Pre-lesson:


Activities 1. Review previous lesson by getting the pupils to sing ‘7 Days Of The Week Song’.
2. Hold up a pupil’s pencil and say This is (name)’s pencil. Pupils repeat.
3. Repeat with other objects and other pupils.
4. Write an example sentence on the board.

Lesson development:
1. Get the pupils to talk about the pictures by asking questions.
2. Distribute worksheets.
a. Low level: worksheet A
b. High level: worksheet B
3. Read through the questions with students, checking understanding of new language (possessive ’s,
do, how many).
4. Play the recording through twice, pausing in between to give students thinking time.
5. Pupils compare their answers in pairs/small groups.
6. Check with the class, playing the recording a third time.

Post-lesson:
1. Distribute worksheets.
2. Guide pupils to match the phrases to form correct sentences.
3. Then, pupils rewrite the sentences.
4. Closure: Pupils name a few free time activities. Write pupils’ responses on the board in circle map
form.
