Day One Summary

In today’s training, Brendon shares how you should think of your overall business.

1. Primary Inputs into Your Business

There are two primary inputs for every business: customer outcomes and lifestyle goals. Everything else
in your business will fall under these foundations, so it’s important to focus on these before you build out
a sales and marketing plan.

First Input: customer outcomes. You don’t want to ever start a business or sell a product unless you are
obsessed about providing that service for your customer. Your overall business and revenue is based on
the value that you give to your customer, so you must have a deep understanding of what your customer
needs and wants. Ask yourself, “What will improve my customer’s lifestyle? Their relationships? Their
career?” What you sell must be tied directly to those customer outcomes in order for you to effectively
scale your business.

Second Input: Your lifestyle goals. You need to build a business that truly serves and aligns with how you
want to live your life. There has been a false narrative in the entrepreneur space that you must constantly
work and forsake work-life balance to build a thriving business. This unhealthy lifestyle leads to burnout.
To have long-term success in your business, you have to love what you do and proactively maintain a
positive mental and physical well-being. So when you are starting the process of scaling your business,
you need to have an honest conversation with yourself and identify what kind of lifestyle you want to
have. Hold yourself accountable on your journey towards success by not sacrificing your lifestyle goals.

Brainstorm:

The reason I want to start my own business is so that I can…

The lifestyle goals I want to achieve in 3 years, 5 years, and 10 years include…

The customer outcomes I want to have happen for those who buy my product or services include…

Day One Summary

2. Sales

This step in the process of scaling your business is to identify how and what you are selling. This step is
crucial because it will allow you to not only stand out in your field, but set concrete goals and strategy
that will bring you success long term.

Product: Everything begins with the product or offering that your business sells. You need to ensure
that what you are selling is tied to your customer’s aspirations as well as your lifestyle goals. You want
your product to be exceeding what your customer needs. To compete in the marketplace, your product
must help a customer reach a higher level of ambition. When scaling your business, you also want your
product to align with your own passions. You will get bored if you are selling a product that doesn’t
make you feel alive—no matter how much money you make.

Campaign: So many people fail to differentiate between a promotion and a campaign. A promotion,
although at times effective for your business, is only a singular touch with your customer. If you want
your business to scale quickly and have huge success, you must be strategizing campaigns—where
there are multiple touch points between the customer and your product. Establish set launches and
then run campaigns to advertise your product to a wider audience. This tactic has been proven to be
highly effective to promote and sell a product.

Brainstorm

A product I can sell that will serve both my customer’s aspirations and can align with my passions is…

Describe your product idea and its benefits in 5-7 sentences…

A campaign that I can run to promote my product launch would look like...

3. Systems

Systems are crucial when scaling your business at a fast and sustainable rate. Once you establish them,
you can start focusing more on the needle-moving aspects of scaling and less on daily tasks and
operations that run your business.

Processes: Your entire revenue is tied to the process in which you are running your business. By
doubling down on the efficiency in which you internally function as a business, you can scale your
business much faster. Establishing a well-oiled content rhythm, a Human Resources department, and an
efficient payroll for your team are all processes that you need to hone in on in order to successfully
scale your business. The next doubling of your revenue will be from you owning both your internal and
external structure.

Automation: It’s extremely important that one of your first tasks when starting your business is building
a highly functional website. You must automate any traffic you receive on those sites and identify who in
your audience is actually purchasing your product. Target those leads and convert them into sales.
Once you establish a working system for this automation, step back and let your programing on those
sites do the work for you. The business will run on its own this way and you will be able to focus on
more needle-moving activities.

Brainstorm

The things I’ll do to make sure my business runs well are…

Something I can do to ensure that my business is automated and runs more simply without me always
have to do everything is…

4. Team

This teaching point is so incredibly crucial to scaling your business! Your ultimate goal when building up
a team is to find skilled and passionate members who can efficiently communicate. It’s time to stop
thinking that you can do this all alone. If hiring scares you, there are a multitude of tools out there for
hiring that makes the process efficient, effective, and extremely simple. If you are still in the early stages
of your business and don’t have the finances to hire a full-time team, start with interns or an executive
assistant who works virtually with you. The goal is to have people surrounding you who have your back
and can relieve you from getting stuck doing tasks that take you, the CEO, away from making more
strategic moves to further scale your business.

If you are the whole team, it can still be done! Start immediately with automation of your web page and
content and establish clear processes to scale out your business and sell your product. Educate yourself
on effective campaigns and outline how you are going to reach your audience with your product. If you
put the effort and time in to really own this strategy, one day your business will turn from an idea into
an enterprise.

Brainstorm

If I were hiring people, the qualities I would look for in them would include…

The roles that I’ll be needing in my company in this first year will be…

If I could have a dream hire in this first year, the person I really need would be someone who is like [this}
and who does [that]…

5. Brand and Market Value

We will dive deeper into this during another day of training, but it’s an important tactic to touch on
when we discuss the fundamentals of scaling your business. Your brand is how you are perceived in the
marketplace and will ultimately dictate how much revenue you are worth. If you follow the above
teachings and really own your business strategy, it will be reflected in the market value you hold as a
brand.

Brainstorm

Describe your ideal brand — what does your business stand for, represent, look like? What is the overall
purpose, messaging and aesthetic of what you are trying to do? What are your values? What makes
your company and products exciting and valuable and different? Just brainstorm! Go…
