construction
Concept
Construction begin in February 1973 and took 3yrs and 4 months to complete.
Plan being Y-shaped with 3 wing to support the 3 legs of the tower.
1. Self-weight
1 2. Turning moment
2
3 3. Shear forces
More than 56 metric tonnes of earth excavated to build construction.
Spreading forces
Tensile stress
Compressive stress
Cn tower was goinig to be built below the sea level , hence to avoid the cracking of rcc foundation
part pre-stressed concrete was used to build foundation
Above figure show the cable laid in foundation
48 High strength steel cables were used and laid in such way that it provided equivalent compressive
force[C] in the centre.
The shaft were made hollow called cavern to avoid heat gain and to make it accessible for workers
through access holes.
Y shaped design was created to assemble elevators for the visitor to take a view while going up and
down
Displacement of thinner part due to wind force and earthquake
Hence tower was made pre stressed to overcomw these forces
