ABSTRACT

This research was conducted in the senior high school department of Alabel

National High School. Therefore 10 students from Grade 11 to Grade 12 are considered

to be deprived of sleep and who are enrolled at Alabel National Highschool. This study

is focused only on the effects of sleep deprivation in academic performance of the

students, its contributing factors and its intervention plan.

The major factors that cause sleep deprivation among the selected senior high

school students were online connectivity, academic demands, and leisure time. They

experienced physical consequences such as sleepiness and loss of focus due to sleep

deprivation. Poor academic performance, tardiness and truancy were also responsible

in the development of this phenomenon. Maximize the use of time, have self-

awareness, and prioritization of wellbeing were the intervention needed in this study.

The parents should consistently watch their children’s activities, guide, and

remind them about the significance of sleep. It is also recommended that teachers

should know these circumstances. School administrators should also make exertions

and apply the intervention plan derived from the study. Through this, they can address

such problems and never neglect sleep deprivation. The replicate of the study should

use other variables that are not included in this study.
