“Every child is an artist; the problem is staying an artist when you grow up” – Pablo Picasso

These wise words have always been influential to me. I am confident that my academic background and
exposure have given me the requisite foundation for the BFA program. Sharing briefly, my fascination
for crafts of ancient India led me to the path of exploration of all the ancient cultures of India.
I joined Bhanwar Rathore Design Studio (BRDS) in 8 th grade to develop my skills in painting and drawing.
There, I got an opportunity to take part in an international art exhibition namely Kshitij – An Art Society,
Delhi. I won first priZe and a gold medal in it. During freshman year, I received an A grade in a state level
elementary drawing exam. I won the second prize and got a trophy in the BRDS exhibition. In
sophomore year, I joined Unolona Academy for better career guidance in designing. After two months of
foundation I finalized fashion design as my field.
In my junior year I started preparing my portfolio. I worked with numerous mediums such as oils,
acrylics, glass, ink, clay, and ceramic. For editing the portfolio, I used the design software like Adobe
Photoshop, Lightroom and Illustrator. I also participated in workshops where I explored and worked
with mediums such as Siporex, blue pottery, screen printing, and block printing. In those workshops I
collaborated with many well-known artists and designers namely Anuj Sharma, and Kamaldeep. In
December of 2018, I was offered to display my work in an exhibition called Art-e-fair, there I sold out
both the art piece and the painting.
In my senior year, I interned at Asopalav Silk India Pvt. Ltd. through the Unolona Academy for the visual
merchandising project. I prepared props, setup the show window and styled the mannequins for the
display in the show window based on the wedding theme. After the success of that project, I got to
contribute in another one for creating an installation which was then displayed at the Ahmedabad Food
Fest 2020. For it I painted the backdrop and a lady with multiple hands and different food items in each
one of them. In October 2019, I was deeply honored when I was offered a part time faculty position at
the Unolona Academy. Since then, I am grateful for sharing my passion of arts to the kids of age 4 to 12
years. Furthermore, because of my communication and management skills I was also offered an
opportunity for working with the team for customized projects that were given to the Unolona
Academy. My cumulative experiences have thus built upon my confidence for a career in fashion design.
While exploring various options, I found the undergraduate program in Fashion Design at Otis College of
Art and Design, the most enticing program which is in line with my interests. The unique structure of the
curriculum and commitment to hands-on training will enhance my skills, allowing me to meet the
demands of the present and foreseeable future, thereby helping me attain my career goals.
To the college, I bring with me the skills and expertise born of my involvement in cultural and technical
events during high school. Leveraging these, I would like to contribute to the college by participating in
various clubs and activities on campus.
I would take it as a privilege if I am granted admission to the undergraduate degree in Fashion Design at
your institution. I thank you for giving me a chance to express myself.
