Personal Statement

After grade 10, I enrolled myself in the Art Pathway program which was a program of my school.
Being part of the art pathway program was an honor for me as a high school student because I
could learn the basics of design. However, following this program was not easy. I faced various
kinds of challenges that were difficult to overcome. Nevertheless, those challenges have shaped
me to become a student who is very interested in design. from that moment I noticed that I have
interest in design and I developed my interest, one of which was by helping my sister to create a
logo design for her catering business. therefore, I decided to take a major in design.

During high school studying is not just for getting grades. But also, to get the values in my life as
a designer. The experience I appreciate most during high school is when I join a design
organization team and I contribute to school events. from creating Instagram content, logos, to
making posters, I can give my contribution well. I once attended a ministry activity in a small area.
There are schools that have dirty, sandy, and unsuitable school buildings. Through this service
activity I participated as a volunteer to teach the children to draw, make origami, coloring and do
other creative activities. Besides that, I also volunteered to paint the school walls with murals with
the theme of preserving the environment. Apart from my experience in contributing to school
events and services, I also participated in photography competitions and I was chosen as the 3rd
winner. After the competition, I have learned that a photo can be appreciated well not only from
the image itself, but also from the story that supports the image. Through these experiences I have
learned about serving others, communication, teamwork, creativity, patience, and time
management. Those things are challenges that I had to face while working because to get a good
result, I have to balance these aspects properly. That's why I signed up for SCAD.

SCAD is a university that I have known for a year and SCAD is one of the universities that excels
in art majors. SCAD is a university that guides their students to become a creative student for their
future career paths. Choosing SCAD was a difficult decision for me because I come from a family
of middle-class economy, and they cannot fully support my higher education, especially if I want
to study abroad. But not only because of finances but also because of the standard education. But
these things will not make it possible for me to not continue my undergraduate education in SCAD.
SCAD provides many opportunities and scholarship opportunities to underprivileged students to
finance their education. I had the opportunity to get the scholarship during my education at SCAD.
So, I will not waste my time to play games but to take action and time to socialize, make friends,
collaborate, and dare to challenge in taking bigger challenges and decisions in the future.
