Some people may take the phrase "the art of getting things done through the efforts of other
people", as a scapegoat in to do minimal work while other people may be doing significantly
more under their supervision. Almost all managers have their own manager in a higher position
that they need to report to. Managers should be required to utilize POLC, (Planning, Organizing,
Leading and Controlling). All of these actions require a manager to work with their team in order
to shape and modify their plans so that the organizing can run smoothly and in order. After
organizing a team or multiple teams as well as sticking to a timeline, implementing those plans
will take affect. When implementing, a manager must work with their team and collect feedback
on the work being produced. By being a leader, a manager can help with any questions, assist
with work, provide constructive criticism and work with their team to help shape and modify their
plans. This will help the team or company if they have to reorganize to be able to improve on
productivity.

A company that exemplifies this process is General Electric (GE). They use an umbrella strategy
in order to plan and organize their operations. GE separated their business model into divisions
such as: business-type, organization-wide and geographical. The separate divisions are able to
do their own planning and organizing within themselves so that production can cater to popular
demand, implement strategies to beat out competitors and adjust performance based on
geological needs. There are divisions all over the world and managers from each division are
required to work with each other in order to improve on productivity and make changes where
they are needed. These divisions must all report to a higher power in corporate. From there,
decisions are made by another manager and so on.

In order for operations to work efficiently, a manager must recognize that they are the strongest
influencers to their team. They must be an example and teacher for them so that they put their
trust in them. With a team on the manager's side, production would run more smoothly and if
there were any changes that needed to be made, the team would exchange feedback with the
manager so that they could in turn make the changes that would best suit the team and help
them remain organized, be on time and stay productive.

Very well put with the explanation of the use of the umbrella strategy. I personally did not know it
was called that. But it is very true that there must exist capable managers for each division to be
able to run the operations themselves and report to corporate. I also like how you mentioned that
a manager must recognize that they are the strongest influencers on their team since most of
them forget that and instead become a "boss" instead of an actual leader to their team.
