The document discusses the meaning of management and "the art of getting things done through other people". It uses the example of an architect managing a building project by planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the contractors. It also discusses how company executives and board members act as managers by planning projects, organizing processes, leading subordinates, and controlling steps. Management is defined as putting together a plan, organizing its execution through leading and controlling subordinates, without doing the work oneself.

by Divine Falola - Tuesday, 8 September 2020, 2:40 AM What this statement simply means is that the process of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling an operation (P-O-L-C), and executing it through your subordinates is management. In the book, we are being taught how management works, and also what “The art of getting things done through other people” is. I will further explain what this statement means shortly but first I would like to bring in a little instance in this case. Now me putting myself in the shoes of a manager and explain this statement, I want to use a building project for example. When building a house you need an Architect in drawing a plan, organizing a certain set of data, leading the contractors as well as explaining these certain plans to the owner of the land, and lastly, guiding the certain project (controlling) to make sure that it works with the plan that he had planned and organized for the house. I want to deploy another instance in this case too, in an organization the board members or executives can also be referred to as Managers because while the sit and discuss on how they will run the company or how their next project is going to be like they are “planning”, talking about breaking down the process and how it’s going to be executed they are “organizing”, telling this idea to their Subordinate and telling them how the project is going to be like and how they are going to execute them they are “leading”, and that act of supervising, monitoring, guiding and following up the series of steps being taken by the subordinate is “controlling. Now, these words being covered by a quotation mark simply shows the four key tools in Management(P-O-L-C). So in this note, I will explain that statement. Management is when an individual puts together a plan, organizing it in this case executing this plan by leading and controlling the subordinates on how the plan should be executed without going through the stress of executing it him/herself. That’s the meaning of the statement stated above. 345 words PermalinkShow parent

Re: U1DF: The Art of Getting Things Done by Nathalie St Louis-Levy - Wednesday, 9 September 2020, 8:16 PM This is a great break down of what Management means. Perfect example with the architecture and Organization they both have Management roles to play out and lead the company. Managerial positions are always played within a Business Wether big or small. 41 words PermalinkShow parent
