CAPACITOR TESTING
Activity No. 1

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of this activity, I should be able to:

1. Identify the primary & secondary winding of transformers.

2. Test coils & transformers using a VOM/DMM.
3. Differentiate good and bad transformers.
4. Recognize the importance coil and transformer testing

II. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENTS NEEDED

3-5 pcs assorted (used &new and different types) coils and transformers.
Multi-tester (VOM/DMM)

III. SET-UP

Draw/show the scenario of testing a coil and transformers using a multi-tester. You
may capture a picture showing the same.

IV. PROCEDURES

1. Determine the terminal leads (primary and secondary) of at least five different types of
coils and transformers.
2. Identify the type and rating (e.g. stepdown transformer: primary: 220V, secondary:
110V; isolation transformer: primary and secondary both 220V; stepdown transformer
multi output: primary 220V, 110V and secondary: 12V, 9V, 6V, 3V ), and so on.
3. Test the coils and transformers if good or bad.
4. Fill-up table in V.
