Water Supply Project

To prepare schemes of Water Supply, the duties of engineers are to collect all
information that may prove useful for preparing the estimate of the project. The
objective of this project is to design the required Supply Water Works of an
assumed City.
Firstly
Given
For a city of population 300,000 capita and an average water consumption as
following:

Notes on the given

For each student
a) Multiply the av. consumption per capita as shown with 1.x, where x: is
your last 3 numbers of your I D.
For example, for given consumption/capita and your ID was 20160500,
so your av. water consumption/capita will be multiplied by a factor 1.500
or 1.5 as following, and then recalculate your final average water
consumption in lit/cap/day

b) Population increased at a rate of 1.1 Y % per year (where Y is the last
number in
Your ID. e.g. 20161089 then Y = 9 and rate will be 1.19 %).

c) Working Period is 18 hrs/day if last number in your ID is even; and the

Working Period
is 20 hrs/day if last number in your ID is odd.

d) Design Period is 30 years for ID 2016; and Design Period is 40 years for ID
2017 and
2018.

Requirements

The water supply works include: an intake on the River Nile, water treatment
plant transmission pipelines, distribution networks and elevated storage tanks.
It is required to Design:
• Pipe Intake (conduit pipes)
• Low Lift Pump
• Flash Mixing Tanks

• Clari-flocculators
• Rapid Sand Filters
• Ground Storage Tanks
• Draw a plan for the designed water treatment plant
• High Lift pumps
• Elevated Tanks
• Plan a complete water network for the city
• Design the main pipelines using Method of section

Secondly

Write a report not less than 10 pages in English language (at least 5 references
should be included) in any three of the following topics:
1. Types of Intakes
2. Conduit pipes
3. Low Lift Pumps
4. Sedimentation
5. Filtration
6. Disinfection
7. Ground Storage
8. High Lift Pumps
9. Elevated Tank
10.Pipe Networks
