3. Last degree: Masters in special education
4. How long have you been teaching? Three years
5. How many sections do you teach? One section ( HIC & VIC)
6. How many students in your class? 14 students
7. Are there any cost or financial problems in providing special needs education? Budget is only
stated in the papers and is never released resulting in non-availability of materials and
resources. So, finances are a big problem. Even the students keep waiting for books and at
last they have to buy from the market.
8. What problems can arise in the education of special needs children due to lack of teacher
training. In our courses of M.A and Med we are only taught the theoretical part we need skill
based trainings to manage our classes
9. Do you get adequate support from the management to teach your students? If yes how? In
the govt institutions the management is not playing an adequate role to support the
teachers or develop a student friendly environment, materials are not provided in time nor
are the heads bothered that most of the time is wasted waiting for books and syllabus.
10. Do you have enough time, resources and skill to adapt the teaching materials to
accommodate your students? We have ample time to adapt the materials I have 2 students
of visual impairment they are very young and with the help of whatever scarce resource I
have I try to teach them reading and writing and try that they learn. But alongside I have to
take care of 12 HIC students for them I have no materials so that becomes a great disaster.
11. Do you feel your students will be equipped to work and live a fulfilled life in future? No they
have no practical skills to cope with the world
12. Do you ever feel frustrated at how little you are doing for these children? Yes, many times I
feel that they are not being provided with what they need and deserve.
13. What in your opinion are the major curriculum shortfalls and what would you like to see
included? We shorten the general education curriculum and implement it for these children
which is technically wrong we need to develop a separate curriculum for them which is not
in place to date. They need pictorial information. They need to have video based. Special
exercises must be developed for these lessons instead of shortening long answers and
helping these children rote learn the answer to these specially developed exercises must be
precise, so that the student must himself or herself understand what he/ she is saying
14. Which teacher training for Special Needs Children education is needed in your opinion? We
are experts in one area but when we join a school we have to deal with the children with
other disabilities as well. Having no knowledge how to manage them becomes a hurdle,
trainings should be provided to help us learn about other disabilities as well and combined
training sessions can be helpful in this regard where teachers of other disabilities are also
there so we can learn from them as well.
