[PROJECT]
Epping Campus at corner of Dalton Road and Cooper Street, opposite to Epping rail station, as part
of Melbourne Polytechnic, want to expand the campus by constructing some new buildings. The outlines
of the campus is shown in the following Figure 1. As shown in Figure 1, the existing buildings (shown in
blue) are A, B, D, L, and M along with the roads between the buildings, and the parking spots (shown in
orange circles).
The expansion will involve the construction of the new buildings C, E, F, G, and K. Beside to these
buildings, the new roads and parking spots should be constructed; and a new entry and exit as shown in
Figure 2.
Assume the following:
Height of new buildings = 8 m, Road width = 6 m, Five Parking spot = 5m x 100m (each)
As a scale of drawing, consider the smaller dimension of building C to equal to 10 m.
The area of the expansion is composed of some flat areas ready for construction, also composed
of cut zone (100x50x3) m and a fill zone (25x25x4) m.
Cost of constructing 1 m2 of buildings = $1250 Cost of 1 m2 asphalt paving for roads = $125
Cost of 1 m3 earthworks = $150
Assume any reasonable value for any missing information.
You and other team members, as junior engineers, have been assigned to supervise the process of
this new expansion to Epping campus. The task of your team is to perform the following:
Prepare a preliminary Report for the expansion.
Estimate approximately the cost of all construction activities involved in the expansion process.

Part (A) REPORT (10 pages maximum)
The report should discuss the key activities required. Ensure to include an outline of (not limited to):
o Setup of site.
o Dewatering of hole
Ensure to include drawings and photos throughout your report. Please ensure that you investigate,
research, and reference your sources.
PART (B) PRESENTATION: In your Group, provide a formal 10 min presentation outlining different
activities.
