PTE352:PETROLEUM PRODUCTION OPERATIONS-II

Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

CO1 :: understand the surface and subsurface production operations

CO2 :: understand the practice of storage of produced fluids and subsequent distribution

CO3 :: use emerging technologies in crude oil and natural gas production

CO4 :: assess the concept of digitalization in oil field production and management

CO5 :: visualize production operation workflow and data analytics hierarchy

CO6 :: analyze production enhancement methodologies that can be applied to sick wells

Unit I
Gathering and collection of oil and gas : oil collection station, gas collection station, group
gathering station, central tank farm, early production system, well head setup, effluent treatment
plants, sequential treatment
Unit II
Field processing of oil and gas : flash and stage separation of oil & gas, design of oil & gas
separators, demulsification, dehydration, stabilisation and desalting of crude oil, dehydration and
desalting of gas, special problems in oil and gas separation, removal of suspended solid & water from
oil & gas, scrubbers and wash tank
Unit III
Treatment, storage and maintenance of produced fluids : electronic coalescesers, skimmer
tanks, skimmer sizing equations and produced water treating system, crude stabilization unit, storage
of crude oil, LPG, LNG, and NGL, vapour control and gravity conservation measures, evaporation loss,
safety systems, oil field corrosion and corrosion treatment
Unit IV
Production logging and production enhancement : production logging operations, pressure and
temperature logging, radioactive tracer logging, spinner-flow meter logging, sick well analysis and
mitigation, formation damage, scale deposition and sand control, excessive production of reservoir
fluids, well stimulation techniques
Unit V
Emerging, peripheral technologies and production optimization : multilateral and intelligent-
well completions, cold heavy-oil production with sand, oil shale & sands ultra-deep production
methods, methods of production optimization and control of produced of water & gas
Unit VI
Digital oil and gas field : DOF key technologies, data gathering and SCADA architecture, intelligent
data analytics and visualization, workflow automation and intelligent control, smart wells and
techniques for reservoir monitoring
