Importing Models

Import the required model.

(Example)

Save the scene as an Inovate file.

Simplifying Components

 Whenever possible, simplify models by removing internal and all other unnecessary
components.
 Removal of the parts will reduce the overall size of the file for the model(s) being imported.
● Has a direct effect on the graphical update performance of the computer.

● Also delete holes, empty cavities, etc (if possible) in the model to improve performance.

 Do this in the native CAD package

 For the following examples, all internal parts (motors, castings, brackets, switches,
etc.) Screws, washers, and nuts were also deleted.

Simplifying Components

The simplified part above had a file size of 1,384KB.

Simplifying Components

The above part, with all internal components, had a file size of 7,148KB when exported.

Exporting Models

 Exporting models for use in MotoSimEG

 The file type that can be exported depends upon if an object is selected or not
selected in the Inovate window.
● If nothing is selected, part(s) can be exported as .hsf, .3ds, .dxf, .obj, .pov,
.raw, .stl, .wrl, .bas
● If an individual, or entire object is selected, they can be exported as .sat, .x_t,
.stp, .igs, .model, .g, .neu
 Models exported from the native package as .3ds, .hsf, and .wrl (VRML) can be
directly imported into MotoSimEG.
● The .wrl is not an option officially supported by Yaskawa; use as a possible
option for importing Catia models.

Exporting Models

Models imported as .hsf into MotoSimEG have limited capabilities.

 When OLP picking, the OLP Operation Object does not snap to the desired point
on the .hsf model.
 Transparency cannot be changed.
 .hsf could be used for static/non-essential components

If a .3ds is used, when it is added to the cell it is automatically translated into

an .rwx and then into an .hmf file.
 OLP pick of vertices, edges, center of surfaces, etc. is possible
 Transparency can be changed.

Exporting Models
In the image below, the overhead structure (yellow outline) was selected and
exported as a .3ds file. (Note the item highlighted in the SceneBrowser).

Exporting Models
In this image, the parts for the overhead structure (light gray outline) were selected
and exported as a .3ds file with all of the other positioner components deleted. (Note
the items highlighted in the Scene Browser).

Exporting Models
In the following image of the MotoSimEG cell, all previously exported .3ds part files
were imported.
When parts are imported, their position in the cell depends upon the origin of the
model(s) selected when being exported.

Exporting Models

Recommend using the third method shown to build a model in

MotoSimEG.
 Deleting all unwanted parts

To finish the build of the model, other sub-assemblies of the

positioner would be individually exported from Inovate and then
added into MotoSimEG as “Child” models of a “Parent” model.

Exporting Models

By attaching the parts to a “Parent” model, they can be moved as one, or have
some other aspect of their properties changed.
•Transparency, Scale, Display

Exporting Models

Exporting Complex models

In some cases, files provided can be too large to import into MotoSimEG as one model.
In the following image, surfaces (in green) that are not part of the model were imported.

ASGW-060 UNCONTROLLED COPY REFERENCE iNET FOR OFFICIAL DOCUMENT DCR# 7166 3/31/2011 14
Exporting Models
The green surfaces were eliminated and the entire correct model was
imported by exporting subassemblies from Inovate.

Note: When importing

fixture_sub3b, an
application error
occurred. The model
contained 16 copies of
the weld torches at
various positions. The
model was made into 2
subs of 8 torches each,
fixture_sub3b and
fixture_sub3c, and it
successfully imported.

Exporting Models

Exporting option for Inovate

When exporting from Inovate, if the model did not import correctly (faces missing, part
looks “shredded”, etc) change the option “Group objects by material” to “faces”.

Exporting Models
The manufacturer’s name is on the handles of the clamps; this model would
not import until it was exported as faces .

Exporting as “faces” will create a .3ds file 2 to 3 times larger than what
would be created when exported as “material”.

Scaling Models

In the following, a model was added that was created in Inches.

ASGW-060 UNCONTROLLED COPY REFERENCE iNET FOR OFFICIAL DOCUMENT DCR# 7166 3/31/2011 18
Scaling Models

The model can be scaled by selecting the model and changing the
scale value in its’ “Property” dialog box.

The scale can also be changed by changing the “Unit” in Inovate

before exporting the part.

Scaling Models

Note: Scaling the model also changes the size of the model’s frame.
