Department overview:
The Independent Valuations Groups within the Finance department is responsible for ensuring
the appropriate valuation of trading positions on the firm’s books and records. The team
interacts closely with other parts of the firm including Front Office, Risk Management and
Product Control.
 
Role description:
Nomura Securities Inc. is seeking to fill a Credit and Securitized Products specialist position in its
Independent Valuations Group (IPV).
 
As an integral part of the IPV team, the specialist will work to independently verify desk prices
for an extensive array of securities such as agency CMBS products and/or specified pools, other
securitized products such as RMBS and ABS, and Whole Loans, and credit derivatives, primarily
covering the US markets.
 
Primary responsibilities:
 
· Month-end testing
· Reviewing new deals
· Improving existing methodologies while researching and implementing new ones
· Ad hoc pricing projects
· Liaising with senior management, trading, risk, product control, model validation, and
other groups
· Preparing a monthly summary report for senior management and conducting monthly
valuation meetings where this information is presented
 

Key objectives critical to success


· The candidate should be self-motivated, responsible, and possess an “ownership”
mentality.
· The specialist will have a visible role within the Finance group, and will also interact
and collaborate frequently with a broad range of groups. The candidate should have
the ability to work under pressure during month-end close.
 
Skills, experience, qualifications, and knowledge required:  
· The candidate should have in-depth knowledge and understanding of Securitized
products and credit markets and a strong understanding of pricing methodologies for
the above products
· The candidate should be capable of delving into sophisticated structures or pricing
models from time to time; he or she should also be able to explain complex issues to
senior management in plain language
· Quantitative and intuitive thinking, analytical skills, and effective communication are
vital to this role
· An MS in a quantitative field is preferred, including but not limited to Physics,
Financial Engineering, Math and Economics
· 4-10 years of direct experience with securitized and credit products is required
· Proficiency in computer programming is desirable
