B.Explaining the Students What to Do

Today we are going to learn how to make requests and identifying the particular kind
of sentence in making request.

C.Modeling for Students

Let someone do something for you. How are you going to say this? Open the
door, bring the books on the table or write a letter for the parent.

Here are some common ways or expressions that you can use in making request.

Could you open the door please?

Can you put this book on the table, please?

Would you mind…? (this is followed by the –ing of the verb)

Would you mind bringing this book on the table?

If you want to do something to other people use the following expressions.

Can I…?

Could I..?
Would you mind if I….?

Do you mind if I…?

D.Discussion

Would you mind is followed by the past tense of the verb. When you use these
two expressions do not use please anymore because those are already polite
expressions.

If you want to make an offer to do something to another person use these

expressions and their proper responses.

May I help you bring your things to school?

When asking for a favor or making request we use interrogative sentence.

Interrogative sentence is a type of sentence that asks a question.

Yes, please. No thanks, I can manage.

Would you like me to tour you in the new building?

Yes, that would be great!
