Five-Year Career Plan Template

The Five-Year Career Plan is designed to help you develop skills in your current job or
to prepare for your next job. Your five-year plan is very much an individual and
personal plan, and is designed to facilitate your growth, development and advancement.
Always use the SMART model when setting goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable,
Realistic and within a specific Timeframe.

Plan Period: From - September 2019 To - September 2024

My Current Position: Currently I am studying Btec Level 3 Business Extended studies

at Shipley College. I am in my 2nd year of this Business course and so far I have
achieved distinctions in every unit. I am also going to be starting work placement
alongside

My Long-Term Goal: My long term goal is to become an accountant. To achieve this I

have to complete my current Level 3 course and get a University degree.

Intermediate Steps Over the Next Five Years to Reach My Goal

Try to set two or three short term goals (i.e. those in the next 2 years) and
the remainder for the medium term (following 3 years)
I am currently studying in the second year of my Level 3 Business course.
Year One This year I need to complete 9 units and hopefully achieve 9 distinctions
like the previous year. I am also about to start my workplacement and
from this I am hoping to learn and develop skills as well as getting a feel
for actually working. This year I am required to write my personal
statement and complete my university applications. I am hoping to go into
Bradford or Leeds Beckett University where I would like to study Business
and Finance.
In the 2nd year of my plan, I would be attending my first year of University.
Year Two The course I would want to study is Business and Finance or Accounting.
From this year, I want to achieve the highest grades possible as well as
meeting new people and enjoying University. I would also like to get a part
time job to build up my work experience and also I want to save up and
eventually buy a car.
In the 3rd year of my plan, I would be moving onto the second year of my
Year Three University course. My main focus in this year would be simply to hand in
work on time and doing to the best of my ability as well as trying to
achieve high grades and improving all the time
In the 4th year of my plan I would like to be doing a placement year and
Year Four working in a good company to build up my profile. This would be taking
place in the 3rd year of University. During this period I would want to gain
experience and knowledge of the job I want to go into. I would like to
work with other and take part and contribute to everything.
In the 5th and final year of my plan I will be graduating from my degree. I
Year Five hope to achieve the best possible grades in the University. After this I will
be looking for potential job roles which I can go into straight away and I
have completed my course. Ideally this role will be something in Business
and Finance because this is something I am interested in and I can use
 my work experience from my placement year.

Personal Development Objectives to Meet My Goals

(what do I need to do to get where I want to be?)
There are many different goals and objectives I would like to achieve however, my main
ambition is to become an Accounting. To do this I need to improve my skills and I need
to build on my work experience and work with different businesses. Also I think I need to
improve my general skills like presentation, customer service and administration skills. I
need to make sure I can get as much work experience under my belt to improve my
skills so I am ready for the workplace.
 How can others help me accomplish these objectives?
There are many different people that can help me to achieve my goals and asprirations.
Firstly, my tutors in Shipley college will help me to get into university. They are the ones
that they will teach me content and guide me in the right directions. My parents can also
help make the correct decisions when I am in University also they will motivate me and
push me to work hard. Finally, when I am working my work collegues will be there to
help me and those in my work placement and other work experience I am going to do.
