4 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

4.1 General

The cooling tower shall be complete with RCC basin, FRP casing, PVC fills, supporting material, fasteners and
mechanical equipment as described below. The tower shall be with air entry from two sides and counter flow type of
construction. The tower shall be of induced draft type with the fan located on top of the tower.

4.1.1 Casing

The complete superstructure including exterior walls, fan stack etc., shall be of FRP construction. The casing shall
be designed to withstand the wind velocities and seismic coefficient as per the relevant Indian standards. The
predrilled casing shall be fastened to the frame work using stainless steel hardwares. All joints shall be lapped and
air-tight to prevent any leakage. Air tight inspection doors shall be provided on the tower for maintenance and
inspection of fills, drift eliminators, distribution system etc., at suitable locations.

4.1.2 Cooling tower Basin

The cooling tower basin shall be of RCC and shall be designed as per latest edition of IS 3370. Basin shall be water
tight without the use of any fillers, paints or sealing compounds. Cooling tower basin shall be provided with cell
partition walls.

4.1.3 Tower Supporting Structure

The supporting framework for the tower casing shall be of hot dip galvanized mild steel.

4.1.4 Louvers

The Louvers shall be provided only at the basin curb level and other area where water splashing is likely to take
place. Louvers must be properly designed to give uniform distribution of air with minimum pressure drop and must
be able to withstand the corrosive atmosphere. The louvers shall be of FRP construction. The louvers shall be
easily removable to permit maintenance.
