4.1 General
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that all road-works carried out on, near,
or is the construction site, is performed in a planned, controlled, correctly signed and
safe manner in order to prevent accidents, and to ensure that road-works construction
meets the regulations and provisions in force.
Where an existing site has detailed COMPANY or local authority specified
requirements for road-works, these will take precedence over this procedure, although
this will still be utilised by company personnel as a guide to safety requirements.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
The HSE Site Manager is responsible for the management of all road-works
activities and for ensuring that the road-works activities are carried out in a safe and
controlled manner.
Supervisor
The Supervisor is a person trained in the application of roadwork’s planning, signing
and construction and is appointed by the Construction Manager.
He is responsible for ensuring the road works are correctly and safely carried out
and the proper traffic control systems are implemented. He shall ensure that persons
who are fully competent perform all work. He shall be responsible for ensuring the Work
Permit system.
4.0 PROCEDURE
4.1 General
When companyare engaged in road-works, they are not only responsible for their
own work force, but also have an obligation to the public (both pedestrian and drivers)
to protect them from potential construction hazards, during the day, at night and in all
weather conditions. Consequently, the marking of construction sites and the safe and
efficient diversion and control of traffic and pedestrians shall be properly planned and
executed. Failure to do so can have serious results.
