BeCreative is teaming up with BBC Radio 4 in a bid to find the UKs’ best student Journalist or
Broadcaster

Student Journalist award

BBC Radio 4 are looking for the UK’s best student journalist. You might be
broadcasting on student radio or creating great online pieces for a student
website. The important thing is that you're already displaying
journalistic potential, and are regularly finding new stories and
reporting them with rigour and accuracy.

BBC Radio 4 will be looking for someone who embodies the


BBC’s values of impartiality, trustworthiness and excellence, and
who’s shown they can serve the needs and interests of a student
audience.

If you win this award, you’ll be offered a paid position on the BBC
News Journalism Trainee Scheme – a great start to any career in
journalism.

Student Broadcaster award

Are you a compelling student broadcaster with a nose for a good story? Radio
4 are looking for someone who brings boundless enthusiasm and strong
editorial judgement in video or audio broadcasting. You need to be
able to communicate well, and have a fascination with news and
current affairs.

They are looking for someone who embodies the BBC’s values of
impartiality, trustworthiness and excellence, and who’s shown they
can serve the needs and interests of a student audience.

If you win this award, you’ll be offered a work experience placement


with the Today Programme team in London, or elsewhere in the UK if you’d
prefer.

Your Target audience must be


16 – 22 year old students

Then you must pick 2 productions to produce for that target audience

How do you win? BeCreative Rules and Regulations

What you must submit:

 A detailed brief must be submitted before production

 A detailed research booklet on chosen target audience

 Research on the codes and conventions of your chosen mediums

 Two planning and production booklets

 Two productions which highlight chosen skill

 Recorded viewing and pitch

 Evaluation and reflective diary on how you have met target audience needs by using the
correct codes and conventions of your medium.

The winner will be decided not on quality but on work ethic, attitude and desire to learn and
improve skills. The winner for the £50 will be decided by ‘BeCreative’
