Standard Summary

Standard 3: Equity and Cultural Responsiveness

“Effective educational leaders strive for equity of educational opportunity and culturally

responsive practices to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.” This standard

was met by participating in the following activities.

 Standard Activity 3.13F: For this activity, I analyzed the school’s diversity

representation. I proposed that the school adopt more practices to encourage diversity and

allow students to embrace their diverse identities.

 Standard Activity 3.15A&B: This standard activity was an equity analysis on Clay

County High School. This project analyzed proficiency, enrollment, and staff numbers to

show statistics and trends in data.

Key Learnings from the Experience

From this experience, I learned that my high school is lacking in diverse representation.

We must include more opportunities for students to be familiarized with diverse populations. The

equity analysis definitely showed discrepancies in data and trends that reflect our declining

proficiency. Our school needs to make improvements in order to compete with other counties in

West Virginia.

Area(s) Needing Further Experience and Improvement

I would like to do more professional development on diversity and how to introduce it in

the classroom. I do not have enough experience to make the kind of impact that I desire.
