Professional Goal Statement #1:
During my PSI practicum, my goal is to incorporate various strategies to motivate my students.
Teaching Quality Standard Competency:
3 Demonstrating a Professional Body of Knowledge by planning and developing learning activities that incorporate a range of instructional strategies,
including the appropriate use(s) of digital technology, according to the context, content, desired outcomes and the learning needs of students.
4 A teacher establishes, promotes and sustains inclusive learning environments where diversity is embraced, and every student is welcomed, cared for,
respected and safe. Achievement of this competency is demonstrated by indicators such as using appropriate universal and targeted strategies and
supports to address students’ strengths, learning challenges and areas for growth

1. One strategy I think would be useful in completing this goal is Ongoing Students will be actively participating in the lesson and
creating activities that are relevant to my students’ lives. For provide their ideas on a given topic.

think is present in their hometown and how they plan on solving
that problem.

Inquiry Question: In what ways will identifying students understanding of the topic help me refine my lesson plans as a teacher?

1. The “Me, We, You” strategy. In this strategy I would direct the
problem-solving process on the board (Me). Then I would include
the class by asking for volunteers to aid in the problem-solving
process (We). Then the students would get the chance to do the
problem on their own (You).
2. KWL charts: I could definitely see myself using this strategy in
a social studies class especially. In PSI I will be teaching a unit on
democracy, I would use this strategy in the beginning, middle,
and end of the unit as a formative assessment tool for
understanding where my students are in their understanding.
This is a good tool to use throughout the unit because the “Know”
column should grow as the unit progresses. Likewise, hopefully
the “want to know” column should become more in depth with
deeper understanding.
The students will be able to go transition through these
Ongoing tasks with minimal help from the teacher. In doing this
the students will know the transitions of the lesson and
what comes next in the problem-solving process.
Ongoing The students will be able to add to their chart as the unit
progresses. If this strategy is successful, students will be
able to answer their question in their “want to know”
column and transfer that information to the “learned”
column.
