PSI Student Teacher: Liam Pafford Semester: Fall 2020

School: Noble Central School Teacher Associate:
Professional Goal Statement #1:
During my PSI practicum, my goal is to incorporate various strategies to motivate my students.
Teaching Quality Standard Competency:
3 Demonstrating a Professional Body of Knowledge by planning and developing learning activities that incorporate a range of instructional strategies,
including the appropriate use(s) of digital technology, according to the context, content, desired outcomes and the learning needs of students.
4 A teacher establishes, promotes and sustains inclusive learning environments where diversity is embraced, and every student is welcomed, cared for,
respected and safe. Achievement of this competency is demonstrated by indicators such as using appropriate universal and targeted strategies and
supports to address students’ strengths, learning challenges and areas for growth

1. One strategy I think would be useful in completing this goal is Ongoing Students will be actively participating in the lesson and
creating activities that are relevant to my students’ lives. For provide their ideas on a given topic.
example, in a social studies lesson about government, allow the
students an opportunity to write about a problem they might
think is present in their hometown and how they plan on solving
that problem.
2. Integrate pop culture into lessons wherever possible. For Ongoing Students will be able to describe points in history from
example, if the students heard a history lesson to the tune of a listening to a history pop song.
song, they know it would resonate more with them than a dry
PowerPoint presentation. There are plenty of resources on
YouTube that translate history lessons into song format to the
beat of some songs the students may know.
3. I will be integrating appropriate social media where possible Ongoing Students will be able to achieve the learning outcome
to enhance student learning. Teenagers have become obsessed by making a fake social media post.
with social media so having them choose a sentence out of a
textbook or resource, having them draw/take a picture that
represents the sentence and including a #hashtag could make
students resonate with the activity and remember it.

2. KWL charts: I could definitely see myself using this strategy in Ongoing The students will be able to add to their chart as the unit

understanding where my students are in their understanding. column.
This is a good tool to use throughout the unit because the “Know”
column should grow as the unit progresses. Likewise, hopefully
the “want to know” column should become more in depth with
deeper understanding.
