SUMMARY OF DEVELOPMENT OF NONWOVEN IN MEDICAL TEXTILE

Nonwoven Fabrics can be defined as “Nonwoven fabrics are flat structures mainly defined as
sheets or webs made by bonding and entangling fibers or filaments by mechanical, thermal or
chemical means.” Fabrics can made directly from the fibers by high speed systems, eliminating
many processes which are generally applied in conventional fabric formation methods thus the
cost of production is very much cheaper as compared to weaving/knitting process.

The objectives of developing the nonwoven is to improve the performance of antiviral surgical
gown especially in medical sector. Healthcare workers' uniforms consisting of surgical robes are
used as barriers to take away the danger of infection for both medical doctor and patient. The
prevalence of human immune deficiency virus, hepatitis B and C , Covid-19 viruses inside the
patient populace is very common. The surgical gowns have to also resource in resistance of liquid
transmission, abrasion and punctures. Surgical robe has to attain the above referred to standards to
achieve the state of extreme barrier protection. According to these prerequisites a surgical robe
ought to meet the subsequent standards: blood and aqueous fluid resistance, abrasion resistance to
put off bacterial penetration, and lint loose to reduce the number of particles in the air.

The method to of preparing the gown is three layers of fabrics were used. The outer layer
polypropylene nonwoven fabric is used, the middle with breathable polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE)
film and inner layer as polyester nonwoven fabric. Polypropylene has good moisture regain and
repel liquidity characteristic which make it as outer layer. Polyester makes a difference in retention
of sweat when utilized for longer length. Basically, the gown is made with the form of three layers.
Each layers consist different thickness and function. After that, the nonwoven fabric was finished
with pad-dry-cure method. The excess solution was squeezed using padding mangle. The surgical
down is then evaluated for the antiviral property, tensile and tearing strength , hydrostatic and even
the moisture vapor permeability test. These test are done to fulfill the requirements in producing a
high quality surgical gown which confirms that the gown has protection against the hepatitis (B
and C), Human Immunodeficiency Viruses and surrogate Phi-X174 bacteriophage and the new
virus, Covid-19.
As a result , the trilaminate surgical gown made with Polypropylene nonwoven as the outer layer
provides Level 4 protection . Since the product is used most effective once, any situation about
damage to the barrier due to reprocessing does no longer exist. Furthermore, there is no need for
in-residence processing, facilitating a move in the direction of instrument focused sterile offerings
departments. The trilaminate surgical gown provides protection towards microorganism and
viruses.

In conclusion, the conventional reusable textiles don't befits the world standards. The trilaminate
surgical robes have consistency in use as they're perpetually new and clean. therefore there's no
need of compromise towards washing.
