Summary
In t h i s p a p e r t h e o p e n - w a t e r c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s o f the Wa g e n i n g e n B - s e r i e s p r o p e l l e r s a r e g i v e n i n
p o l y n o m i a l s f o r use i n p r e l i m i n a r y s h i p design studies b y means o f a c o m p u t e r. T h e s e p o l y n o m i a l s
w e r e obtained w i t h the aid o f a m u l t i p l e r e g r e s s i o n analysis o f t h e o r i g i n a l o p e n - w a t e r test data o f
the 120 p r o p e l l e r m o d e l s c o m p r i s i n g t h e B - s e r i e s . A l l t e s t d a t a w a s c o r r e c t e d f o r R e y n o l d s e f f e c t s
by m e a n s o f an * e q u i v a l e n t p r o f i l e ' m e t h o d d e v e l o p e d b y L e r b s . F o r t h i s R e y n o l d s n u m b e r e f f e c t a d -
d i t i o n a l p o l y n o m i a l s a r e g i v e n . C r i t e r i a a r e i n c l u d e d to f a c i l i t a t e t h e choice o f expanded blade a r e a
and b l a d e t h i c k n e s s . F i n a l l y , a n u m b e r o f new t y p e o f d i a g r a m s a r e g i v e n w i t h w h i c h t h e o p t i m u m

1. Introduction
