COMPLEX NUMBERS

To work.

Members of this set are called imaginary numbers

But √ – n2 ≡ √n2 × –1

≡ √n2 × √ –1

≡ ni where i = √–1 or (sometimes j = √ –1 )

In light of this imaginary number can be written in the form ni

Where n is the real part and i the imaginary part.

Imaginary numbers can be Added and Subtracted from other Imaginary numbers

2i + 5i = 7i

√ 7i – i = (√7 – 1)i

 NB – Product or Quotient of TWO imaginary numbers is real

2i × 5i = 10i2
But i2 = –1 since i = √ – 1
