 1. INTRODUCTION
Generally, this document is developed as a method to be used for rehabilitation of
manhole.

2. OBJECTIVE
The objective of this method statement is to define the sequence of works for the
manhole rectification work.

Generally, manhole rectification works will involve inspection work to the existing
manholes to be rehabilitated follow by cleaning work, repairing work and applying
protection coat.

3. MATERIALS
Ombran MHP : Sulphate Resistant Mortar
Ombran HB : Sulphate Resistant Mineral Bonding Coat
Zentrifix KMH : Mineral Based Corrosion Protection Coat
MC-Fix ST : Fast Setting Water Plug.

 5. HANDLING AND STORAGE
I. Materials are stored and handled in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions
both in the warehouse and on – site.

II. Powder materials are stored in dry conditions, undercover.

6. PREPARATION OF SUBSTRATES
I. The defective areas are to be cleaned and free from oil, dirt and any other
unsound material.
II. Cleaning shall be done by using filtered compressed air or clean water.
III. Receiving substrate to infill mortar shall be pre-saturated with water.

7. APPLICATION
Ombran MHP : For a 25 kg bag of MHP, approximately 3.4 – 3.6 liters of water
is required.
Ombran HB : For a 25 kg bag of HB, approximately 4 – 4.5 liters of water is
required.
Zentrifix KMH : For a 25 kg bag of Zentrifix KMH, approximately 3.6 – 3.8 liters
of water is required.
MC-Fix ST : Approximately ratio 3 : 1 (MC-Fix ST : Water).
MasterPlas MC 610 : For a 40kg bag of MasterPlas MC 610, approximately 7.6 – 8.0
liter of water is required.

8. MIXING
I. Ombran MHP is mixed with clean water. The dry powder is slowly added to
water and mixed thoroughly until homogenous, smooth and lump free mix is
achieved. Mixing should be approximately 5 minutes.

II. Ombran HB is mixed with clean water. The dry powder is slowly added to water
and mixed thoroughly until a homogenous lump free and workable mortar is
achieved. Mixing should be at least 5 minutes.

III. Zentrifix KMH is mixed with clean water. The dry powder is slowly added to water
and mixed thoroughly until a homogenous and lump free mixture is achieved. Mixing
should be approximately 5 minutes.

 9. PROCEDURE
9.1. BRICKWALL MANHOLE
9.1.1. INSPECTION
I. Clean wall and soffit of manholes using high-pressure water jetting machine.
II. Inspect and mark all damage area.
III. Any water leakage/seepage must be repaired using MC-Fix ST.

9.1.2. PROTECTION
I. Replace missing bricks with new bricks
II. Pre-wet the concrete substrate thoroughly.
III. Apply Ombran HB bonding coat to the damp substrate.
IV. Mix and apply Ombran MHP wet on wet manually to satisfactory.
V. Curing by water cure.

9.2. CONCRETE MANHOLE

9.2.1. INSPECTION
I. Clean wall and soffit of manholes using high-pressure water jetting machine.
II. Inspect and mark all damage area.
III. Any water leakage/seepage must be repair using MC-Fix ST.

9.2.2. REPAIR TO DAMAGE AREA

I. Hack off all damaged area to sound concrete.
II. Where re-inforcement bar is exposing, hack back at least 10mm behind the
bar.
III. “Saw-cut” the perimeter of damage area to prevent feather edging, minimum
depth 10mm.
IV. Clean re-inforcement bar using power tools such as power brush or sand
blasting.
V. Prime all exposed re-bar with 2 (two) coats of Zentrifix KMH, mineral based
corrosion protection.
VI. Mix and apply Ombran MHP wet on wet manually and leave till dry.

 9.2.3. PROTECTION
I. Substrate preparation by mechanical means such as hand scabbler, grid
blasting etc. This effective method will remove the weak laitance and provide
a rough texture for maximum bond.
II. Clean and pre-wet the substrate using high-pressure water jetting machine.
III. Apply Ombran HB bonding coat to the damp substrate.
IV. Mix and apply Ombran MHP wet on wet manually.
V. Curing by water.
