1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this method statement is to ensure that wall plastering comply with specified
requirement.
This work procedure covers all activities required to produce acceptable wall mortar finish.

2. SCOPE OF WORKS

All interior and exterior wall plastering.

4. METHOD

MATERIALS

1. Cement

Type of cement: K-cement and Camel cement

2. Sand

Sand will be used for plastering is river sand (sand property test already submitted). Sand shall
be good quality and free from salt, mud, dust and hazardous level of organic matter.

3. Mortar mix

The mortar mix proportion is used:


 1 : 5.5 (cement : sand)

This proportion shall be measured on site by 20 litre buckets as shown below:

The volume of water will be visually adjusted so that the mixture mortar does not possess any
dry mixture.

A. SURFACE PREPARATION

 Clearing all dirt and loose matter


 Chipping and clearing of unevenness on the masonry.
 Raking out joints if necessary for proper keying
 Guide level shall be installed before plastering.

Plastering has 2 coats or 2 layer of plastering for 230mm wall and for 110mm wall only 1 coat of
plastering (See figure below):

 Fix in position the plaster mesh in joint specified areas.

B. PLASTERING MORTAR PREPARATION

 Use a concrete bagger mixer for mixing the mortar.


 The sand should be the approved and tested sand
 In case wet sand is to be used, check for quantity of water in mortar and allow for bulkage
of sand while mixing to get consistency of mortar.
 Prepare the mortar in clear area in proportion as specified.
 Mix plastering mortar should only be consumed with in next 2 hours.
 Mix proportion required is 1:5.5

C. WORK PROCEDURE

1ST COAT APPLICATION:


 Mortar is used and its thickness is 10mm and keep it for 1 day (rough finish).

2nd COAT APPLICATION:


 2nd and final coat thickness is 7mm and keeps it about 2 hours (depending on the moisture
of mortar which is subjected to weather and area temperature) till the mortar get bit dry
before applying the finishing coat. Level the plastering surface to the guide level.

FINISHING COAT:
 Mortar with fine sand to be used and with 3mm thickness make the surface flat and
smooth. This coat is finished with wood floating or steel trowel finish. After a minimum of
2 weeks painting can be carried out.

General Work Procedure

 Wet the surface of masonry to receive plaster one hour before, so that while starting
plastering the surface is skin dry.
 All embed MEP pipes, electrical boxes shall be completed before commencement of wall
plaster.
 Throw the mortar for an area coverable by the straight edge, both vertically and
horizontally in one stretch.
 Level the surface using the straight edge or aluminium square tube.
 Float the surface and finish as per required thickness.
 Repeat this operation for the entire area in stages (1st to final coat application)
 Provide scaffolding when work height is more than 1.5 meter
 Intermittently do check the surface for plumb, line and level and make up all deficiencies.
 Provide 20mm coat plaster (two application) in internal and external surfaces of concrete
and masonry wall in as specified.
 Trueness of plastered surface when checked with the straight edge of 3 meter length shall
not be greater than 4mm at any place.
 Restrict the access to area where plastering is complete (To ensure better protection of
edges, corners, angles etc.).
 Cure the plastering well for 3 days.

Note: Plastering work must be planned to complete each coat in a whole span for one day. In
case a large area or long span, a wooden stopper shall be provided at the edge of the area
where the plastering work for the day ends.

5. SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

 All works shall comply with safety procedure or instruction as set out in project safety plan
rules and regulations
 Urban Safety Personnel will be on site during works
 Qualified and skilled workers should be assign to the installation
 All field personnel shall be required to wear their PPE
 Preparatory meeting should be conducted before start the work
 Provide lighting when work at night
