1. SCOPE

This specification sets forth the basic requirements for painting to be applied
for EXOR-I Project in Indonesia.
The general painting of building and marine facilities is not covered in this
specification.

2. CODES AND STANDARDS

The following codes and standards shall supplement this specification:

(1) Swedish Standard SIS 05-59-00-1967

"Pictorial Surface Preparation Standards for Painted Steel Surface"

(2) SSPC Vol. 2, 3rd Edition (steel Structures Painting Council)

3. GENERAL

3.1 Paintinq Schedule

(1) Painting schedules for structures and equipment shall be in accordance

with Table 1 attached hereto.
(2) In Table 1, "Shop" means the painting to be executed at manufacturers'
shop by manufacturers and "Field" means the painting to be executed at
construction site by painting subcontractors.
(3) Temperature in this specification means operating temperature of item.

3.2 Extent of Paintinq Work

(1) All erected equipment, structures and pipes shall be painted to conform
to the painting schedules above.

(2) Lining surfaces, non-ferrous metal surfaces, galvanized surfaces,

stainless steel surfaces, embedded steel surfaces touched with concrete
and hot insulated piping shall not be painted.
Austenitic stainless steel surface must be protected from overs pray of
inorganic zinc primer and silicone aluminium.

(3 ) Packaged type equipment, machinery such as compressor, pump, driver,

instrument and electrical equipment etc., shall be painted at the
manufacturer's shop with a paint system which is compatible with the
operating conditions where the equipment is to be used.

(4) Internal surface of equipment, vessels, tanks and pipes shall not be
painted unless specified.

(5) Partial or non-fabricated items including steel plate and structures, and
all completely fabricated items except for above paragraph (3) shall be
prepared and primed and where necessary further coated based on Table 1,
prior to transportation to site.
In such cases it shall be the manufacturer's responsibility to ensure that
the paintwork carried out in the shop has sufficient durability to meet
the construction period on the site before further painting can take
place.

(6) Metal surfaces to be fireproofed with concrete or mortar may not be

painted except for anticorrosive paint for ocean transportation, etc.
92s2D.WPF

0-7000 S-00-13A1-001J
SHEET 4 OF 15

3.3 Paintinq Work

(1) Paint shall be prepared and applied in strict accordance with the paint
manufacturer's instructions.

(2) Painting shall be done in dry weather on surfaces free from dirt, oil and
moisture.

Painting (outdoor painting) shall not take place under adverse weather
conditions, in particular rain or fog.

(3) All prepared steel surfaces shall be primed before visible re-rusting
occurs.

(4) Painting work for building shall conform to

the relevant documents for building.

(5) Tinting
When successive coats of paint of the same colour have been specified,
alternate coats of paint shall be tinted, when practical, sufficiently to
produce enough contrast to indicate complete coverage of the surface.
When the paint is the colour of the steel, or when the tinting of the
final coat is objectionable, the first coat to be applied shall be tinted.
The tinting material shall be compatible with the paint and not
detrimental to its service life.

(6) Intercoat adhesion

Undercoats having a glossy surface which detrimentally affects the
adhesion of the subsequent coat shall be treated by mild surface abrasion
solvent treatment or other suitable processes which will not cut through
or detract from the performance of the paint.

(7) Dip and flow application shall not be permissible under this
specification.

4. MATERIALS

4.1 Types of Paint

The type of paint materials shall be per Table 2.

4.2 Film Thickness

Coating system and standard dry film thickness (average) shall be per Table
1. and 2.

s. APPLICATION

5.1 Surface Preparation

Prior to treatment, the metal surface shall be cleaned of dirt and grease,
and the heavier layers of rust and weld spatter shall be removed by

and foreign matter. Finally, the surface is cleaned with
a vacuum cleaner, clean dry compressed air or a clean
brush. It should then have a faint metallic sheen.

(2) St 3 Very thorough scraping and wire-brushing -- machine brush

-- grinding -- etc. Surface preparations as for st 2, but
much more thoroughly. After removal of dust, the surface
shall have a pronounced metallic sheen.

(3) Sa 1 Light blast cleaning. Loose mill scale, rust and foreign
matter shall be removed.

(4) Sa 2 Thorough blast cleaning. Almost all mill scale, rust and
foreign matter shall be removed. Finally, the surface is
cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, clean dry compressed air or
a clean brush. It shall then be greyish in colour.

(5) Sa 2 1/2 Very thorough blast cleaning. Mill scale, rust and foreign
matter shall be removed to the extent that the only traces
remaining are slight stains in the form of spots or
stripes. Finally, the surface is cleaned with a vacuum
cleaner, clean dry compressed air or a clean brush.

(6) Sa 3 Blast cleaning to pure metal. Mill scale, rust and foreign
matter shall be removed completely. Finally, the surface
