1. SCOPE OF WORK :

This instruction highlights the NCC's work sequence intended for the Erection of Gratings &
Handrails in Plant Building Package - "B" (Mechanical Works). Execution of work shall be carried
out in accordance with the relevant project specifications.

5. EXECUTION / PROCEDURE :

A. Grating Erection Procedure:

The installation of the Gratings will be carried out in strict adherence with all DAELIM
furnished approved for construction drawings, specifications, and all other relevant
Contract documents.

Erection personnel shall read and understand work instructions, Method Statements,
Job Specifications and drawings prior ~o work commencement.

The sequence of installation activities shall be as follows:

1. Preliminary preparation prior to installation works:

1.1 Ensure access platform are installed, e.g. Scaffolding, ladders, stairs, etc. for
worker's vertical transition to the area of erection. In case such secondary structures are not in
place, provide scaffolding.

1.2 All permanent ladders must be inspected, green tagged and safe for use by
DAELIM QC/Safety before use.

1.3 Provide life-line where workers can hook-up safety lanyards during handling and
placement of grating panels. Ensure installed Life-line complies with OSHA

standards and indicate a sign or mark in a visible and suitable place on the life-line
that proves it is safe for hook-up of lanyard. Extension lanyards must be provided
prior to installation of life-line.

1.4 NCC shall assign material crew at the structural material lay-down yard to haul
the grating panels.

1.5 Gratings should have visual inspection upon initial delivery under the
responsibility of DAELIM representative to confirm no damage had occurred during
transit from manufacturer to the lay-down area. Any damage will be noted, and
brought to the attention of DAELIM representative. Any damage occurring after this
inspection e.g. due to transport to the project lay-down area on and offloading etc,
will fall under the responsibility of NCC.

1.6 Segregate the grating panel per level and arrange in a correct sequence of
erection for each level.

1. 7 Check the total delivered grating panel intended for each level of the structure.
Extra safety precaution must be provided on areas where grating panels are not
100% delivered or correctly fabricated for each level of the structure.

1.8 Ensure that all crane operators have valid Operator License to be able to perform the
erection work. Ensure the teams are briefed by DAELIM Safety Department and are
aware of all risks & competent to perform the job as required by DAELIM.

1.9 Ensure the works are and all safety provisions are visually or physically checked.
Obtain necessary work permit and safe work plan prior to commencement of the
work. Coordinate properly with DAELIM all the activities that will be done at site.

2. Erection:

2.1 The erection shall be undertaken in accordance with the good working practice
and relevant specifications as well as an approved Safety Action Plan.

2.2 Assign a minimum of six (6) nos. of workers with crane, man-lift and required
scaffolds to install the gratings.

2.3 Commence the installation of grating panel at one of the corner of the structure

where access provided by using scaffolds or man-lift.

2.4 Crane must use to lift only Individual grating frame of that specific row, never allowed to
stack the grating panel on the top.

2.5 Proper installation of the grating frame than only after remove the sling.

2.6 After placement of each grating panel, secure with fasteners (Tapping screw I Clamp)
before placing the next one to ensure a safe work floor. No loose materials allowed on the top.

2. 7 Continue the installation unit reaching the last grating panel on the row.

2.8 Proceed erection to the succeeding row, left side of the accomplished grating and repeat
the activities of SL# 2.4 to 2.6

2.9 Again, proceed to the succeeding row and repeat 2.4 to 2. 7 until the last row of the
grating panel is accomplished.

2.10 After completing the erection of grating at the first level, proceed to the next level
of the structure.

2.11 Repeat 2.4 to 2.8

2.12 Touch up all damaged paint material as recommended by steel fabricator or as per
approved material submittal. Surface preparation and application as per project
specification NCP-OO·NO·GS"OOl

2.13 All filed cut floor plate or grating opening required, toe plate protection or banding

shall be done as required in the relevant drawing or other documents.

2.14 Gratings and floor plate shall be fastening as specified in the drawings. A minimum
of four fasteners per panel shall be used. ~

2.15 Where specified in the drawing galvanized floor plate shall be used. If opening in
floor plate is not dimensioned in the drawings shall be cut in the field as per direction of
DSA/NCP.

2.16 Removable floor plate shall be secured with flush counter-sunk bolts.

2.17 Serrated bar, removable type gratings will be used at all locations unless
otherwise not specified in the drawings.

2.18 Notching of bearing bar is not permitted. Banding bars shall be of the same~ thickness
as the bearing bars to which they are welded. Trim bands shall be

welded to each intersecting cross bar and to every fifth intersecting bearing bar.

2.19 All welded connection shall be made as per NCP-OO-AO-GS-057, ParaS.6


and approved structure WPS.

2.20 Gratings will be secured to the supports with a minimum of two fasteners per
supporting beam and four per panel. Fasteners shall be stainless steel saddle clips
with 6mm (l/4 inch) self-tapping hex head screw with lock washers. Alternates
fasteners may be used with prior approval by DSA/NCP.

B. Hand-Rails Erection Procedure:

The erection of Handrails shall be undertaken in accordance with the good working
practice and relevant specifications as well as an approved Safety Action Plan.

Erection personnel shall read and understand work instructions, Method Statements,
Job Specifications and drawings prior to work commencement.

Double check pre-fabricated handrails material lists as per AFC Erection Drawings &
Assembly Piece Mark Numbers as provided by DAELIM. Any deviations against the
issued drawings or defects on the handrails assembly encountered during the sorting
shall be immediately reported to DAELIM for their information and appropriate action.

Use crane for loading and unloading of handrails assemblies from lay-down yard within
the site or from materials lay-down area to the assembly/ erection site.

The erection of Handrails will start from the lowest level in succession order up to the
highest level and the Handrails for top platform will be the last one to install.

Erectors shall install the Handrails of Platform by the bolted connection, followed by the
installation of Gratings, Floor Plates and Ladders etc.

All bolts for Handrails, toe plates, posts, stair stringer and treads and removable floor

require tensioning only to the snug tight condition.

Touch up all damaged paint material as recommended by steel fabricator or as per


approved material submittal. Surface preparation and application as per project
specification NCP-OO-NO-GS-001.

6. QUALITY CONTROL AND ASSURANCE

All stages of work shall be inspected in accordance with the approved Inspection Test Plan.

7. HEALTH AND SAFETY

The work shall be executed in accordance with the approved safety action plan. Rigging I
Lifting plan and daily safe work plan. Permits shall be obtained prior to any commencement
of the work when required. Only trained and experienced workers shall be utilized for the
Erection I Installation work. Ensure that all workers working at height have attended training
for work at height.
