3. Modification of Oil Ring on DS-Series Engines

SK8103 - 21st May 1981

To further improve the consumption of L.O., the

oil ring of the DS-26, DS-26A, DS-28 and DS-32
engines has been modified.

a. The outer contact area with the cylinder liner

has been increased. A broader contact area
ensures a firm, gas tight motion along the liner
with a longer lifespan (see figure 5).

b. The tension force of the coil spring has been

increased to account for the increased contact
area and therefore the surface pressure upon the
liner remains the same.

c. For identification purposes the rubber

connector of the coil spring is of milky white
colour rather than blue used in the old type oil
rings.

Note:

During installation of the new oil rings make sure the "R" mark faces upwards (see figure 5b).

Never combine new oil rings with old type coil springs or new coil springs with old oil rings, since
the tension of the coil spring has been designed for a specific contact area of the oil ring.
