Environmental Protection: The Duty of All People

Environmental protection refers to the preservation and saving of the

environment from the dire impact of human and human-made activities (Mank,

1996). The matter of environmental protection is of utmost urgency because of the

maximum danger that the environment is in right now. Protecting the environment

should be our top priority to decrease pollution, avoid climate change and ensure

good health.

Environment refers to the natural surroundings and conditions in which we

live. However, our environment has come under serious threats stemming from

human activities.

To protect the environment, the pollution rates should be decreased. Air, land,

and water pollution needs to be kept under check. Utmost care and responsibility

should be taken while disposing of wastes on bodies of water. Reduced use of

vehicles and transportation should be implemented to help reduce air pollution.

Careless dumping of solid wastes on the ground should be decreased to regulate

land pollution (Wildlife & Countryside, 2017).

Similarly, people must also give attention to forest conservation. Deforestation

has not only reduced the area of forests around the world, but also has led to a

higher flood frequency. Soil conservation is a way to save the forests. Techniques for

improved soil conservation include crop rotation, afforestation and tree plantation

(Toppr, 2019).

In addition, climate change has caused negative impacts on the ecosystem

and ecology. Due to these changes, several species of plants and animals have

gone extinct. The environment has been greatly damaged and it requires a lot of
effort to restore it. Climate change will bring much more erratic weather events and

we need to be certain that our systems are resilient enough to deal with these

changes (Smith, 2019).

Due to pollution and deforestation, the health of many people has declined.

Advances in the field of environmental health have taught us much about human

health hazards; for example, air pollution can cause respiratory disease, heavy

metals can cause neurotoxicity, and global climate change is likely to fuel the spread

of infectious diseases (US Institute of Medicine, 2020). Conserving the environment

would certainly improve the overall health of people. One way is through exposure to

plants and trees. Growing more plants means more oxygen. Hence, growing more

plants and trees would lead to a better quality of life and enhance our health.

In conclusion, there are many ways to bring about environmental

management. People should understand the urgent need to be careful in their day-

to-day dealings with nature and the environment and practice sustainable living. By

simply avoiding single-use plastic and by recycling them instead, we can help save

the environment. The Constitution places a duty on state authorities to care for the

environment but this duty to care for the environment is not only put on the state, but

also bears upon individuals (Nkusi, 2019). Therefore, it is incumbent on everyone to

promote, preserve and protect the environment against any kind of degradation.
