I Problem The circuit represented in the figure consists of two equal-size parallel-plane ideal capacitors, sharing the same potential
difference, V0 = 40 mV. The potential energy of the system is U=6 10-8 J.
1) Find the value of the charge Q0 placed on the plates of each capacitor.
A liquid, of dielectric constant K is poured in the capacitor on the left, while the distance between the plates on the right is halved, so
that, when equilibrium is reached and the capacitors have once again the same potential difference V f, the same charge Qf is then
found on the planes of each capacitor. Find
2) The value of K
3) The value of Vf
4) The value of Qf
5) The energy Ud dissipated by Joule effect in the process.

II Problem Four electric wires are stretched along the same direction, perpendicular to the plane defined by this sheet. They are placed at
the vertices of the square ABCD (side l = 0.5 m). Wires on opposite vertices are crossed by equal currents (i A = iC = 50 mA, sorting out
from this sheet, and iB = iD = ?). The force per unit length on the wire in B is null. Compute:

1) The force per unit length on the wire in D

2) The value of the currents iB = iD (mark it as positive if sorting out of the sheet, negative else)
3) The force per unit length on the wire in A
4) The angle of such force with the straight DA
5) The magnetic energy density at the square centre

An exercise is correct if, and only if, the right numerical result is found, and the derivation of the result is presented. Therefore the student must :
- mark with a cross the numerical solution in the upper table
- write the units in the last column for the quantity defined in the first column
- write in the booklet provided for this purpose a brief description of the method employed to obtain the result
Each exercise of the first problem is worth a maximum of three points; two points for the exercises of the second problem. Cross missing, or placed on the wrong numerical
value, gives zero points. Description missing, gives also zero point. Units missing costs one point each. Wrong direction cost one point.
Questions

A) In which case a discontinuous electric field can be found ?

1) Never
2) When traversing the surface of a charged conductor
3) Inside a magnet

B) Which sentence describes the electrostatic screening ?

1) The electric field outside a hollow conductor does not depend on the charge placed inside the conductor
2) The electric field inside a hollow conductor does not depend on the charge placed outside the conductor
3) The two sentences above are both correct

C) Explain why the flux of the magnetic field B across a closed surface, fS(B), must be equal to zero.
1) Because B is a conservative field.
2) That's not true, fS(B) can be different from zero.
3) Because magnetic charges (monopoles) do not exist.

D) Take two identical capacitor, capacitance C0. How should they be arranged to produce a new capacitor with capacitance 2 C0 ?
1) make a series.
2) make a parallel.
3) there's no way

E) In classical electromagnetism, Faraday's law of induction, E = -dFS(B)/dt, is due to the action of Lorentz's force if:
1) flux variation is due to a change in the geometry, with fixed magnetic field B
2) flux variation is due to a change in the magnetic field B, with fixed geometrical configuration
3) it's always a consequence of the action of the Lorentz force

F) An electric charge is moving in a region permeated by a uniform magnetic field. The charge trajectory is described by:
1) a parabola
2) a spiral
2) an hyperbole

G) The transformer changes the input voltage E1 into the output voltage E2, exploting Faraday's law. This works:
1) only with direct currents
2) only with alternate currents
3) both with direct and with alternate current.

E . The dipole:
H) An electric dipole is placed initially at rest inside a region permeated by a uniform electric field 
1) moves along the same direction and sense of  E
2) moves along the same direction, but opposite sense as  E
3) oscillates around the direction of  E
Discussion: Gauss theorem for the electric field

Please, choose your solution drawing a cross above the number of the answer you judge correct.
Each solution, if right, is worth three points (+3). A cross placed in the wrong place costs one point (-1).
No cross, zero point (0). The discussion is worth a maximum of ten (10) points.
