About
IISc
Indian Institute of Science is a public institute
for research and higher education in science
and engineering. IISc was established in
1909 and claims a large, green campus in
Bangalore, Karnataka. It continues to remain
one of the best institutes in the world for
scientific research. It was ranked first in the
NIRF rankings for three consecutive years
and as of 2019, is in the top 200 list of the QS
rankings.

The Undergraduate course with a heavy em-

phasis on an interdisciplinary syllabus was
introduced in 2011. IISc, with its distinctive
heritage, skilled community and past and
present research projects is an active con-
tributor to the fields of science and engi-
neering.

Pravega
Born from the minds of the undergraduate
community at IISc Bangalore is an idea that
grew into an intoxicating four-day experi-
ence. Merely 7 years old but having gained
enough momentum since its inception, it is
now recognized as one of the top fests in
India. Delivering a racemic blend of science,
art and culture and promising a schedule
complete with a myriad of competitions,
expert workshops and electrifying perfor-
mances from top artists — Indian and inter-
national, this is the site of a footfall of thou-
sands, a fest that is undeniably growing
bigger by the year. Here is the largest
science fest in the country, out to bewitch
your senses and blow away your expecta-
tions. This January 30th to February 2nd, get
ready for exhilaration. Get ready for Pravega
'20.

Explore a new side of science through our reper-
toire of interestingly intricate events designed
specifically to stimulate your brains. Earn a new
perspective to your favourite field(s) of science.
Put on your thinking caps for Pravega ‘20
 science
1 DECOHERENCE
A national physics competition with a special twist! This is one of the
flagship events of Pravega and attracts all science lovers and research
enthusiasts. Decoherence is a research intensive event which allows par-
ticipants to experiment in a physics lab and find solutions for questions
in a period of 24 hours. Selected teams must then present their findings
in a medium of their choice. They will be judged on the basis of their
report, responses to criticism and how they critique other teams under
the watchful eyes of a panel consisting of reputed professors of IISc. Get
ready to combat the challenges of Decoherence at Pravega ‘20.

2 CHEMENIGMA
Explore the science of chemistry through a scientist's eyes - where there
is no precise problem, no clear experiment and only vague theory. Take
your own decisions and conduct experiments until you find your answer.
After qualifying for the experimental stage, participants will be present-
ed with problems directly impacting the daily lives of people and will
have to find innovative solutions to them. They will then explain to scien-
tists the strengths and compromises of their approach. This event is a
true representative of the challenges a scientist today faces. Come see
for yourself!

3 WHODUNNIT
Something terrible is happening at IISc. Fest-goers find themselves
caught up in a web of suspicion, deceit, and murder. Fear and terror fill
every heart at the institute. Can you get to the bottom of the mystery
before all hell breaks loose? Put on your cloak and your deerstalker cap,
and come to the institute to find clues, collect evidence and crack the
case. The public is counting on you. Come to Whodunnit, one of Prave-
ga's long-running events, and show us your mettle as a first-rate detec-
tive. There is no time to waste - the game is afoot!

4 ENUMERATION
An event for all the math-heads out there! Enumeration is a competition
to test a set of abilities including but not limited to mathematical ability,
logical reasoning, deduction and analysis. In addition to problem solv-
ing, this event requires you to constitute claims and support them with
convincing arguments. As an overall test of your skills as a reliable math-
ematician, Enumeration is a platform to put your abilities under exami-
nation and develop a new approach to math.

5 QUADSPARK
Pravega ‘20 invites young geniuses of India to its school quiz competi-
tion, Quadspark to compete with students from other metropolitan
cities. A quiz designed for students of classes 9 and 10 to check their
own understanding. Do you have a firm grasp on science? Pull your
socks, put on your hats and get ready to face the heat!

6 MOLECULAR MURALS
This is a perfect combination of art and creative science. In this event,
participants will be provided with a blank canvas in the form of a white
t-shirt. They are to bring their artistic visions out on their canvas. But
hold your breath! It's not as simple as it seems. There will be a number
of fun twists to enthral you and make you think proactively with the
given constraints :)

7 WHAT WOULD DARWIN DO?

This is a game we play every second of our lives. And at every step, you
will find that there is a lot more strategizing and thinking to do in biolo-
gy. This event consists of a strategy making, a scavenger hunt and data
analysis. What would you do if, for every question that is asked, you
knew the answers given by your friends? Would you change yours? Or
stick to yours? Are you ready to get your mind blown by seeing yourself
in such a dilemma? This is just the beginning.

stage just for you. In a display of creativity,
elegance and energy, showcase your prow-
ess in music dance or theatre at Pravega ‘20.

1 BATTLE OF BANDS
As one of the most anticipated events of Pravega, the Battle of Bands is
an electrifying event where bands from across the country compete for
fame and glory. Charging the air with an almost tangible excitement and
energy, this is the event that draws an ecstatic crowd to catch some of
the most talented bands in action. And for Pravega ‘20, this just might
be you.

2 LASYA
Pravega’s dance extravaganza is here in a new avatar allowing partici-
pants to compete under two categories: Aurum and Novare.
Aurum: a category encompassing International and Indian classical/folk
styles of dance to promote refined and elegant performances that
reflect the purity of gold.
Novare: the category that includes all modern strains of dance from free-
style to fusion, encouraging artists to infuse their moves with innovation
and creativity.

3 PROSCENIUM
Hurray! The most awaited Pravega ‘20 is back again! Reaching out to all
the drama and theatre lovers out there. Your beloved Proscenium is
again embellished for your grace this year. Proscenium is an open stage
theatre competition where participants across the country get to por-
tray their acting skills and theatrical talent. Various experts in this field
will be judging the performances and will be present to give you sugges-
tions and help to improve your skills. The Stage is waiting for you!

4 FOOTPRINTS
One of Pravega’s most engaging events is here!. Let your Footprints
adorn the busy streets anew this year. Footprints is an open street play
(Nukkad Natak) competition where participants across the country get
to portray a compelling narrative and flaunt their acting prowess on the
streets of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. An expert panel will be
present to judge your plays and give you advice to help improve your
skills. The Streets are waiting for you!

5 IISc NATIONAL PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE
In a first of its kind at IISc, this parliamentary debate is aimed at bringing
together some of the brightest high school level speakers in the country
to present their views and battle each other on the most pertinent and
burning issues in contemporary India and the world. Following a rigor-
ous Asian parliamentary format, adjudicated by some of the best inter-
national debaters India has produced, this event is set to present a nail
biting experience for all those witnessing it.

6 SHUTTERS
Shutters encourages photographers from around the country, amateur
or professional to showcase their talent and unique perspective. Focus
your lens and our eyes on your skills. Trained judges and attractive prizes
await. So, go on. Start clicking the Shutter!

7 ESCAPE ROOM
Ever been in a life threatening situation, racing against the clock on a
quest where the stakes are phenomenally high? Experience all of this
and more in one of Pravega's newest events, the Escape Room! Find
clues, solve puzzles and Escape. The room. Duh!

8 ANIME QUIZ
A city wide anime quiz open for all ages jointly conducted by Japan
Habba and Pravega. Also features a performance by the well-known
band Daisuki. Following last year's success this edition will feature multi-
ple new rounds. Join in the excitement and form teams of two. Partici-
pants from all disciplines are invited for the throne of the anime quiz
champion.

1 LORD OF THE STRINGS
Pit your programming acumen against fellow coders in this online battle
royale of wits. Lord of the Strings challenges the contestants to create
AIs to play a game provided, which are then played against each other
until a champion emerges. So put on your thinking caps and follow the
code to victory!

2 HONOUR CODE
Show off your coding skills by solving a series of mind-bending problems
with ingenious algorithms and careful optimisations. May the source be
with you!

3 RAMPAGE
Stretch your engineering expertise to the limits as Rampage invites you
to build your own robot to navigate an obstacle course faster than
everyone else. Will your supermodel be the one to set the ramp on fire?

4 HACKATHON
Introducing Hackathon, where participants are invited to propose origi-
nal ideas and create algorithmic solutions for a open-ended, real world
problem with far-reaching applications in an exciting session spanning
days. If you've been waiting to take your coding skills from "hello world"
to saving the world, this is your chance.
