1.
Definition of
Inverters

6

Inverter is power electronic equipment
used to convert DC to AC.
They are known as DC-to-AC converters.
The output AC is symmetrical with desired
magnitude and frequency.

8
Importance of Inverters

1. Used in photovoltaic (solar) systems to convert DC output

from PV cells to AC.

9
Importance of Inverters
2. Used in UPS or Uninterruptible Power Supply.

Ups uses a set of batteries along with an inverter to supply power

when the main power is no longer available.

Types of Inverters

▸ Three Phase Inverters

Single Phase Half Bridge R-Load
Q1 and Q2 are transistors for switching ON and OFF.
We use transistors instead of Normal or mechanical switches because the
Sin wave has frequency of 50 HZ which means 50 cycle in one second.
So we use PE switches as MOSFET or IGBT to switch fast.

Q1 and Q2 are controlled so that they don’t switch ON at same

time.
If Q1 and Q2 switched ON then there will be a short circuit on
supply.
