Question II (5 pts)
Zinc is a chemical element with symbol Zn and atomic number 30. Zinc is a lustrous bluish-
white metal. It is brittle and crystalline at ordinary temperatures, but it becomes elastic and
soft when heated between 110°C and 150°C. It is a weak reactive metal that will combine with
oxygen and other non-metals, and will react with dilute acids to release hydrogen.
Zinc is the primary metal used in making American pennies. As a pigment zinc is used in
plastics, cosmetics, photocopier paper, wallpaper and printing.
Zinc is a trace element that is essential for human health. When people absorb too little zinc
from food they can experience a loss of appetite, decreased sense of taste and smell, slow
wound healing and skin sores

1- Pick out from the text:

a. The chemical symbol of the element Zinc.
b. The sentence that states the use of zinc as a
pigment.
c. The effects of low zinc levels on human health.
2- Specify whether the souring of milk is a physical
change or a chemical change.
3- Indicate one physical property and one chemical
property of zinc.

a. Reaction with oxygen: yes
b. Reaction with acid: yes
c. Heated to 150°C: no change in elasticity
