Explain that person, place and thing nouns are concrete nouns because you can experience them with your five senses. Idea nouns are abstract
nouns because you can't experience them with the senses.

Ask each student to think of three concrete nouns and type them in the chat box.

Now show students some or all of the following list of common abstract nouns: ability, adventure, anger, beauty, bravery, calm, childhood,
compassion, confidence, curiosity, death, disappointment, education, evil, fear, freedom, friendship*, goodness, happiness, hate, honesty, hope,
imagination, intelligence, jealousy, liberty, life, love, memory, need, opinion, pain, patience, peace, power, pride, rumor, sadness, satisfaction,
silliness, speed, surprise, talent, uncertainty, victory and wisdom.

Ask students to draw three abstract nouns of their choice.

Discuss with the class that abstract nouns are hard to define and draw because you can’t experience them with the five senses.
