“E-Learning: Progression or Stagnation?”

The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has been affecting the whole

world in many aspects. It caused many plans to be cancelled, many lives to be at risk,
and many dreams to be crushed. Our economy, health, livelihood, and education are
greatly affected. The government urged the public to stay at home, most companies
required their employees to work at home, and schools are conducted online. Secretary
Leonor Magtolis Briones, the current secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd)
has stated that the Philippines cannot achieve full readiness, but education cannot wait.
This has urged many schools to open their academic school year and conduct a new
method of learning —the “e- learning”.

E – learning is the new method of learning that enables students and

teachers to utilize different types of technology to help us with our education. This
includes the use of different online platforms to deliver our learning materials. With this
alone, we can see that we are now welcoming modernization as it cannot be helped, the
coronavirus pandemic led us to it. With this new method of learning, can we students
achieve progression or are we leaning towards stagnation?

Progression, by its definition means development or moving gradually

towards an advanced state. Stagnation, on the other hand, is the state of not moving
forward, developing, or growing. As students, we desire to study and gradually move up
to another grade level or year until we can graduate and work. We have different
learning habits and different methods to learn. With the new method of learning being
implemented, can we all adapt to the new normal? Can we learn something and instill
that in our minds? Can we progress with our education?

I guess it depends on how we act upon it and how we perceive it. With the
new normal being implemented, our lives drastically changed. We are learning inside
our homes with many distractions and interventions. Education is such an important
aspect we should take but given that we are in the middle of a pandemic, the
government had taken some measures so we could continue with our education. A lot
of us have been struggling to adapt to the changes and therefore having a hard time
dealing with e-learning creating the idea of us learning towards stagnation. Some may
be more comfortable with this setup and some are more comfortable having it in a
traditional way.

Unfortunately, as of now, we have no power against the invisible enemy

we are fighting. We have no choice but to accept and adapt to the new normal. With the
new method of learning, the e-learning, we should strive hard to progress with it.

So, with the e-learning, are we on our way to progression or are we

leaning towards stagnation? Progression or stagnation, this will be greatly influenced by
the situation we are in. It varies upon our perspectives and our mindset.
