cultures and experiences. Participants also discuss about the pandemic
situation, SDGs, education, and others they are comfortable of sharing.

spaces – including digital – where they can
“freely express their views”.
Objective

F O U N D A T I O N
Being locked down for months
increased the risk of people to suffer
from mental health disorders having
no one to talk. SDG’s target 3.4 work
towards promoting mental health and
well-being, other than fighting against
communicable diseases.

With people spending hours on

devices a day, hate speech and toxic
mentality had been prevalent to
spread to various social media
platforms. SDG’s target 11.7 aims to
provide access to safe and inclusive
spaces even digitally.
Activities

Talk 1: Cross Cultural Communication Inspiration: youtube.com

A short talk where the speaker/s will be able to cover how different cultures —
including Vietnamese and Filipino — can successfully coexist next to each other.
This will tackle how people are used to living in an accepted and familiar way even
with the different ideas of it across borders. Learn the importance of curiosity,
misperception and the challenges in adapting to different cultures. Is it difficult to
live in Vietnam as an expat? How to establish mutual understanding between a
Vietnamese and a Filipino? What does it take to have a global mindset?

Talk 2: Social Dilemma

Social media opened us up to a bigger world, making us connected to more
people within just a few clicks which could be good or not. This talk looks into the
threatening human impact of social networking. This explores to the
disproportionate impact that algorithms have over the way we think, act, and live
our lives. The talk will teach participants to learn distinction and rethink on what
they normally see online.

Talk 3: Starting Human Connection Inspiration: youtube.com

According to Molly Carroll (2020), “Our brains are wired to reach out and
interact”. Starting Human Connection talk will share how human connection helps in
lowering mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and even suicide
ideation. With quarantine and lockdowns across countries due to the pandemic,
people have been limited to talking to others personally. This talk will allow us to
understand that improving our connections with ourselves helps us better connect
with others.
Activities

Game 1: Three Words

Instructions:

1.Participants will be placed on breakout rooms (BR) random people.

2.Ask participants in the BR are to agree on a random topic.

3.Each person should contribute with only three words to the story and they will
take turns to contribute.

4.The participants will say the first three words that come to their mind. It does not
matter if they make sense or not.

5.Try to move from one person to the other quickly.

Take-away:

The three words they come up of saying is more likely to be something they are
thinking for awhile, something that is relevant to them, or something based on their
experience because the topic they hear is sudden and unanticipated. The game will
display their culture, interests and wit. This will also be useful in practicing the
importance of adapting to changing situations and thinking on one’s feet.

Game 2: Would you rather?

Instructions:

1.Participants are to be distributed to breakout rooms having 6-8 members in each.

2.In each turn, the group will choose one person who will predict the preference of
others in the group. The chosen predictor will be tasked to write down their
prediction in a piece of paper.

3.Then, other participants are to choose between to options. All those with option A
will be asked to put hands on head and all those who prefer option B are to cross
their arms on their chest. It will help to quickly show which preference is the
majority. One point is awarded for everyone who predicted that result.

4.Each participant takes turn in being the predictor.

Take-away:

This exercise will explore a series of differences that we have with others, and
similarities. Each person has their preferences especially those from different
borders. This activity makes each participant think on their feet and gives insight
into their priorities while thinking of other’s perspectives as well.
