METHEDOLOGY FOR DRYING SHRINKAGE & OTHER CRACKS IN NAGPUR MUMBAI SUPER EXPRESS

WAY.

REFERENCE : IRC SP 83 -2018 GUIDELINES FOR MAINTATENANCE , REPAIR , REHABILITATION OF

CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENTS

1) CRACKS HAVING WIDTH +3 MM WERE IDENTIFIED FOR REPAIRS.

2) ON THE CRACK, DRILLING WAS CARRIED OUT TO GAUGE THE DEPTH OF CRACK. IN CRACKED

PORTION THE DRILLING EFFORTS REQUIRED WILL BE LESS WHILE IN PARENT UNDISTURBED

CONCRETE, DRILLING EFFIORTS REQUIRED WILL BE MORE.


3) DEPENDING UPON THE CRACK DEPTH V KNOTCH WAS FORMED ALONG CRACK LENGTH BY

USE OF CONCRETE CUTTER / GRINDER.

4) BOTTOM OF V KNOTCH WAS CHECKED FOR FUTHER CRACK IF ANY. IN CASE OF VISIBLE

CRACK AT BOTTOM THE DEPTH OF V KNOTCH IS FURTHER CUT TILL CRACK DISAPPEARS.
5) THE DEVELOPED V KNOTCH IS CLEANED BY AIR BLOWER / PRESSURE WATER JET / AGAIN AIR

BLOWER.

6) AFTER SURFACE IS DRIED, WATER MISSIBLE EPOXY IS APPLIED ON SURFACE AS BONDING

AGENT BETWEEN OLD AND NEW CONCRETE. AFTER FEW MINUTES OF AIR CURING . THE

WALLS OF KNOTCH BECOMES TACKY, READY FOR FILLING BY CEMENTETIOUS MATERIAL.


7) PICC MATERIAL NICOMIX (POLY IRONITE CEREMIC CEMENTETIOUS MATERIAL) IS MIXED IN

DESIRED PROPORTION CEMENT 50 KG : NICOMIX 125 KG WITH WATER CEMENT RATIO OF

0.20. THE MIXED MATERIAL IS FILLED UP IN KNOTCH , COMPACTED & FINISHED TO LEVEL OF

PAVEMENT. AFTER INTIAL DRYING, MATCHING GROOVED FOR TEXTURE OF PAVEMENT ARE

MARKED.
8) SURFACE IS INTIALLY CURED & PROTECTED OVERNIGHT.

9) SURFACE IS CHECKED FOR SHRINKAGE IF ANY.

10) REPAIRED CRACK IS OBSERVED FOR FEW DAYS FOR ANY SETTLEMENT / SHRINKAGE.
