READING - PART 6
The majority of companies that employ a sales staff pay them by _____(1) rather than just giving them a
straight salary. This ensures that the company’s sales force will exert _____(2) effort in an attempt to
increase their salaries. Accordingly, increased sales not only result in higher salaries for the workers but
also in higher _____(3) for the company. Both _____(4) regard this as a win-win situation; the employees
because their wages are higher, and the companies because their profits increase.
_____(1) it has long been known that people with college degrees have higher salaries than those without
them, the percentage difference in salanes has been steadily rising over the past decade. The difference in
salaries between those with college degrees and those without them used to be about 17%. but it now
stands at 24% and promises to increase in the future. Most analysts attribute _____(2) to the number of
highly specialized jobs, particularly those _____(3) to computers, which are being created. These jobs are
high paying and require more than a high school education. If this should continue, it is possible that more
people who previously wouldn't have will begin attending college in an effort to increase the size of their
bank accounts.
