USEFUL WORDS FOR SPECULATING - FCE/CAE Pt.

Hi everyone. So if you are preparing for the FCE/CAE part 2 or plan to, you really need to
speculate when comparing the pictures (but never describe them). I'll attach a CAE task and will
write some useful examples with the words I want you to use more in BOLD (I'll compare the first
two pics)

Q1 Why might the people be doing these things together?

Показать полностью…
- It's QUITE PROBABLE that the explores in the first picture are lost and are trying to ski their way
back to civilization.
- The children in the second picture are MOST LIKELY baking some tasty biscuits...
- The explores in the first picture COULD VERY WELL BE on their way to the North Pole to fulfill
their lifetime ambitions.
- The kids in the second picture DEFINITELY SEEM TO BE doing some arts and crafts together
PROBABLY for a school project.
- It's HIGHLY LIKELY that the guys in the first picture are running away from a polar bear since
they APPEAR TO BE running away from something.
- I'm RELATIVELY SURE the kids in the second picture are throwing some materials together for
an art project OR SOMETHING.

Q2 How might the people be feeling?

- The explores in the first picture MUST CERTAINLY BE relieved having managed to escape from
a rabid polar bear.
- The kids in the second picture SEEM TO HAVE burned their biscuits so they CAN'T POSSIBLY
be happy at all.
- The explores in the first picture MIGHT BE feeling over the moon at having reached their final
goal.
- The kids in the second picture are MOST CERTAINLY rather pleased with themselves since they
managed to bake Jamie Oliver biscuits for advanced chefs.
- Although the explores MAY WELL HAVE reached their destination. they CLEARLY SEEM TO
BE disappointed since they went to the wrong pole.
- The kids in the second picture REALLY OUGHT TO BE/SHOULD BE delighted with their
achievements since I couldn't even come close to producing something like that!
