Introduction
This network connects the computer hardware in a localized area such as an office, home,

etc. however, our project is a LANs and it uses wired connections to link the computers to

each other and to a variety of peripheral devices such as printers. Devices connected to a

LAN are able to access data from any machine that's connected to the network. LAN users

can communicate with each other by chat and are also able to get to the internet.
3

Objective
The objective of the project is for student to understand the usage of MS. Visio. With this

knowledge, it helps them to link computers together and provide shared access to printers,

file servers, and other services. The network is connected into larger networks, such as

connecting many computers within the company to each other and to the Internet.
4

Problem Specification
A medium sized company

The company is hosted in a four story building

The company contains 50 employees

Each employee has been provided a computer

The company contain 5 departments (ICT, ACCOUNTING, MARKETING, TRADING

AND PERSONNEL DEPARTMENTS)

Employees are able to access the internet

Every employee is able to print from a laser printer

Network Design

Design Specification
We are using this section to explain some devices use in the designing of the project.
Router: a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks.
Routers perform the "traffic directing" functions on the Internet. The router helps in the
aspect of connecting our local network to the internet.

Switch: a device that connects devices together on a computer network.

Firewall: a piece of hardware put on this network to prevent some communications
forbidden by the network policy. A firewall typically establishes a barrier between a trusted,
secure internal network and another outside network, such as the Internet, that is assumed to
not be secure or trusted.

Server: In computing, a server is a computer program or a device that provides

functionality for other programs or devices called clients this architecture is called the
client–server model and a single overall computation is distributed across multiple
processes or devices
7

Conclusion
In Conclusion, the network design was build using a variety of media. Common media

include twisted pair wires, however. The topology being used is star topology. Because it is

easy to maintain and troubleshoot. A printer is being used by a department to reduce cost.
