Introduction
This work shows the network connection of five departments within a four story
building.
It also gives diagram on each of the network architecture find in each department
within the building.
However, the departments are: ICT Department, Accounting Department,
Trading Department, Personnel Department and Marketing Department
3

Objective
As to my understanding, the objective of this project constitutes the basic

understanding of MS. Visio by student. After this project is done, students of

network Fundamental will be able to understand the basic devices that are

connected with in a local area network, and how those devices are connected

properly. It also helps students understand how devices (PCs) within a local

network are able to access the internet

Problem Specification
A medium sized company

The company is within a four story building

The company has 50 employees

Each employee has a computer

The company contain 5 departments

Employees are able to access the internet

All employees are able to print from a laser printer

Design Specification
Switches
Switches are a primary hardware component in LANs, enabling network
communication. To establish a LAN, cabling is run to each hardware device on
the network. Switches are used to interconnect the hardware cabling throughout
the LAN and permit the flow of data. Each switch is designed with ports for
network connections, with the number of ports based on the size of the switch.

Router:
Router is a highly intelligent device that connect multiple network types and
determine the best road for sending data; It forwards data
packets between computer networks. Data sent through the internet is in the form
of data packets. A packet is typically forwarded from one router to another router
until it get to the send destination.
7

Firewall:

A firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and

outgoing network traffic based on administrative rules. A firewall typically
establishes a barrier between a trusted internal network and untrusted external
network, such as the Internet.

Hosts:

Hosts can be defined as any devices on a network of which Internet protocol

Address can be assigned.

Conclusion
A local-area network (LAN) is a computer network that spans a relatively small
area. Most often, a LAN is confined to a single room, building or group of
buildings, however, one LAN can be connected to other LANs over any distance
via telephone lines and radio

However, this project explains the concepts, technologies and components used
to build and maintain local area networks (LANs). Students doing this project
will have a solid understanding of the fundamentals needed to build and maintain
LANs.
