EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of community service programs on students which
are personal life, social, ethical, and academic. A program by us as a student of management & Science
University (MSU) plans to organize a program that is a community service program by August 30, 2020,
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. Learning outcome from this community service is to gain knowledge about our
communities which help us to gain the confidence to be a better human being in life. Besides that, increase
the interest and motivation to be involved in communities. In the next generation, our great opportunities
and challenges we can take together by supporting the poverty community and spreading freedom and
tolerance.

The question of why this program should be organized is because we were concerned about the low-income
family and elderly struggling and not having much help in these challenging situations. As an aspiring student,
we gain an understanding of each other, especially during a COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, it will give us a
sense of human compassion and builds a stronger community where a stronger community leads to great
country development.

Furthermore, we as a student will learn on improving leadership skills, communication skills, decision making,
problem-solving, teamwork before entering in career, which we will spend most of our hours in the
workplace. Moreover, students who participate in the community service will be a great leader in the
workplace in the future as we learned to delegate, give clear instructions, and motivate the team.

As we will learn through these subjects to volunteers ourselves, manage budgets, gather supplies and
resources, meet tight deadlines, and execute multitask action plans. Involvement in these projects can force
team members to hone organization skills.

1. INTRODUCTION

Recently, COVID-19 has shocked the world economic structure and health which affects self-employer and
low-income workers. Based on the survey conducted by Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), 46.6% of
self-employed respondents had reported losing their jobs following COVID-19 and during Movement Control
Order (MCO) being enforced. The losing of jobs based on the sectors is as per presented in Figure 1.1. As the
threat of COVID-19 blanket Malaysia and causes disruptions to our daily lives, those already living in poverty
and at risk of things be pushed into deeper vulnerability. Many of them are also daily wage earners who have
lost their livelihoods in this challenging time.

The theme chosen by our group of five to make this proposal successful is Urban Poor. Urban Poor is a family
of four which is monthly income is less than RM2000 with no savings in the future, someone who not be able
to survive three months without work. They just got much income to running monthly expenses. Although
Government gives intensitive by lending their hand in helping low-income people by Bantuan B40, we
students of Management & Science University as a group also focus on B40 family which their monthly
income is RM 2000 and below and elders family which are in risk to go out there to get much income and
buy their monthly things and get their healthcare intensive.

The Community Service Program is part of the compulsory courses that need to be taken by students of
Management & Science University. Through this subject, we have got the opportunity to support the
livelihood of refugees in our selected area for those who have lost jobs, lost an income to bring home food
during this

Movement Control Order (MCO). Students are required to plan, implement, and make reports on the
projects. Hopefully, this project will successfully be conducted with the little help from us to feed the B40
family, especially for the elderly, Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) community who at higher risk for severe illness
from COVID-19 to reduce their burden by Delivery Groceries. This idea was triggered by the realization and
awareness that low-income and the elderly that require assistance during this time of Movement Control
Order (MCO).

Therefore, it is very appropriate for us to carry out this project in this proposed place with the approval of
MSU Presidents by lending hand to help us by approving this proposal to implement this project successfully

A contactless survey has been done during this Movement Control Order as we practice social distancing, we
try to avoid contact with people out there to do a face to face interview or a paper survey. Survey was
conducted using social medium, Facebook on 13th July 2020 to acquire the public vote on which of the areas
in Selangor that deserves the most attention for the support. Below is stated the post we create as we see
the higher vote goes to Merpati Apartment at Jalan Pandan Indah, Kuala Lumpur which is presented as below.

8. CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the implementation of this program can cultivate good values in students and strengthen
the relationship between the community and students. Apart from that can provide new experiences to
students especially to become a responsible leader one day. It is hoped that through this program, we
gain the skills to plan, manage, and implement community service programs. This program will be able to
leave a positive impact on the local community or globally to the country. In the current situation,
volunteering will help people to reduce the stress of thinking about monthly expenses. Implementation
of this project can support helpless people by delivering groceries for a month. This community service
also can allow younger people to extend their efforts to check on elderly neighbors, shop for groceries,
deliver food for those who are unable to perform such duties in this pandemic COVID-19. Moreover, we
can stand together to protect the most vulnerable in Malaysia before more lives are lost. After executing
this program, hopefully, the student can get more benefits to participate in this community service
program. We hoped that the approval of this proposal can support our group together to help the
helpless.
