Artificial Intelligence
in Manufacturing Systems
Fall 2020
§ Highest priority: Health and Safety of everyone
§ If you have symptoms of COVID-19, get sick, or feel ill,
please notify me and do not come to class.
§ Wear masks properly (covering the nose and mouth)
§ Stay in your place as indicated by floor decals.
§ When you arrive, please clean your desk, chair, etc.
§ I will mix a variety of teaching modes.
§ To give you enough time for coming in and out of the
class for other classes, I plan to start at 9:40 a.m. and
end around Noon.
§ After the class, I will leave the classroom first; then
please leave the classroom one by one slowly keeping
social distance.
Learning Objectives

After taking this course, the students will be able to:


(i) identify models of scholarship;
(ii) explain elements in assessing scholarship;
(iii) search relevant literature for scholarship;
(iv) describe the current status and trend in intelligent
manufacturing systems;
(v) identify research needs;
(vi) develop a research proposal;
(vii) present research proposal idea clearly;
(viii) explain theories behind machine learning algorithms;
(ix) execute machine learning algorithms in R or other languages;
(x) adopt relevant AI/machine learning algorithms for the research
proposal.
