ABSTRACT
The proposed system is to save life from the bore wells.Small
children without noticing the hole dug for the bore well slip in and
get trapped. Since the holes are dug too deep it is quite impossible
to save life. The fire force and medical team find it difficult to
rescue children due to unknown levels of humidity, temperature
and oxygen in the depths of the bore well. Rescue work can be a
long drawn affair lasting close to thirty hours. The time taken is
long enough to kill a precious life. Even if rescued the child may
die due to injuries sustained. This has created an open challenge to
the field of medicine, rescue and the whole human society. To aid
in such rescue we have proposed a system that will easily rescue
within two hours of time without any major injury. By that a
precious life can be saved.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1 GENERAL

Children often fall down in the borewell which have been left
uncovered and get trapped. The rescue of this trapped children is
not only difficult but also risky. A small delay in the rescue can
cost the child his or her life. To lift the child out the narrow
confines of the bore wells is also not very easy. The child who has
suffered the trauma of the fall and is confined to a small area
where, with a passage of time the supply of oxygen is also reduces.

Robot for borewell rescue offers a solution to these kind of

situations. It is a robot that has been designed for the purpose of
aiding rescue workers. It is fast, economical and safe. Moreover, it
has the facility to monitor the trapped child, supply oxygen and
provide a supporting platform to lift up the child.

Today’s major problem faced by human society is water scarcity,

which leads to a large numbe of bore wells being sunk. These bore
wells in turn have started to take many innocent lives. Bores which
yielded water and subsequently got depleted are left uncovered. A
suitably strong cap of bright colour to cover the mouth of the bore
will avoid such accidents.

6
Small children without noticing the hole, dug for the bore well slip
in and get trapped. Human search of water finally has ended in
disaster. Since the holes are dug too deep it is quite impossible to
save life.

The fire force and medical team find it difficult to rescue children
due to unknown levels of humidity, temperature and oxygen in the
depths of the bore well. Rescue work can be a long drawn affair
lasting close to thirty hours. The time taken is long enough to kill a
precious life. Even if rescued the child may die due to injuries
sustained.

7
CHAPTER 2
2.1 LITERATURE SURVEY

Forty five deaths of children have been reported in the country

since September 2001. From that we have only nineteen with the
proof of news paper that shown below. Their deaths are caused due
to uncovered dry bore wells. When the casing pipes costing hardly
Rs.2000-3000/- are removed, even a six inch bore became wider
and trap an unwary child. In the recent history of the country, only
one child Sandhya of Bellary on April 11, 2002, And Prince from
Haryana, was rescued alive from bore well. Six year old boy
Deivaraj on June 8,2004 was rescued from the bore well, but later
died in the hospital due to injuries during the rescue operation and
lack of medical aid.

Usual method followed by the Rescue team is first to find the depth
of the child in the bore well by using a rope. After finding the
depth, a parallel pit is dug using earthmoving vehicles.

This method of Rescuing has following difficulties:-

 It takes up to 30 hours to dig the parallel pit, by that time the
child would have died.
 Lack of oxygen inside the bore well.
 Lack of visualization causes the major difficulty during the
rescue operation.
 There is no such special equipment for rescuing the child
trapped inside the bore well.
8
2.2 Operating Procedure and Incidents
2.2.1 PRINCE, 24th July, 2007

Figure1: Schematic Diagram for Child sever Machine

9
 It rescued because of availability of parallel pit.
 Even though they done the process after 48 hours.
 If not- what’s the fact?
 What will happen when heavy machinery is digging the
parallel pit?
 This leads very high vibration inside the bore well.
 It causes physical and mental damage to the child.
 The rescue is carried out in the following steps:

 Avoid rushing everybody to the bore well.

 Fix the platform on the well so that the central hole of the
platform is above the well.
 Don’t allow more than two or three persons to stand on the
platform.
 Guide the 12’ long pipe attached to the blower in to the
well and admit fresh air into the well.
 Guide the Camera attached with the wire into the well
carefully, till it reaches the child, watching the monitor
carefully. Lift the camera up and fit it on the grasper.
 Attach the connecting pipe, connecting rod and the safety
belt to the grasper.
 Allow only two persons on the platform and carefully
guide the whole assembly e. in the well.

2.2.2 MAAHI, June 23

It has been three days since Maahi, a four-year-old girl, fell into a
bore-well in front of her house while she was playing with other
children. Though an intensive rescue operation is on, she is still
stuck there, and nobody knows whether she is alive.

10
2.3 Difficulties with Conventional Method

 It takes up to 30 hours to dig the parallel pit, by that time the

child would have died,
 Lack of oxygen inside the bore well.
 Lack of visualization causes the major difficulty during the
rescue operation.
 There is no such special equipment for rescuing the child
trapped inside the bore well.

3.1 Parts of the Mechanism

 Pulley
 Pipe
 Wings
 Base
 Cable
 DC motor
 Electric wire
 Steel seats
 Led bulbs
 Battery
 Charger
 Camera

Pulley
A pulley is a wheel on an axle or shaft that is designed to support
movement and change of direction of a taut cable, rope or belt
along its circumference. Pulleys are used in a variety of ways to lift
loads, apply forces, and to transmit power. In nautical contexts, the
assembly of wheel, axle, and supporting shell is referred to as a
"block."

12
A pulley may also be called a sheave or drum and may have
a groove or grooves between two flanges around its circumference.
The drive element of a pulley system can be a rope, cable, belt,
or chain that runs over the pulley inside the groove or grooves.

13
Pipe

This is a hollow pipe which would help in the operation of the

system which we are going to design. Wires, camera and sensors
gets their connection through this section of system.

Wings

This is main and important component of the mechanism which

actually provide the support to the infant who have fall down in the
borewell. This has been designed as such that it can hold and pick
up the child without any injury.

14
Electric Wire

DC Motor (10 rpm)

Working principle of DC Motor mainly depends upon Fleming

Left Hand rule. In a basic DC motor, an armature is placed in
between magnetic poles. If the armature winding is supplied by an
external DC source, current starts flowing through the armature
conductors. As the conductors are carrying current inside a
magnetic field, they will experience a force which tends to rotate
the armature. Suppose armature conductors under N poles of the
field magnet, are carrying current downwards (crosses) and those
under S poles are carrying current upwards (dots).

15
Features:

 10RPM 12V DC motors with Gearbox

 3000RPM base motor
 6mm shaft diameter with internal hole
 125gm weight
 Same size motor available in various rpm
 12kgcm torque
 No-load current = 60 mA(Max), Load current = 300
mA(Max)

16
By applying Fleming’s Left hand Rule, the direction of force F,
experienced by the conductor under N poles and the force
experienced by the conductors under S-poles can be determined. It
is found that at any instant the forces experienced by the
conductors are in such a direction that they tend to rotate the
armature.

CHAPTER 5
5.1 WORKING

The whole guided assembly which have circumference less than

the dia. of borehole will go to the borehole which consist a small
camera on it by this camera operator will find the position of the
child and there will be a small pipe which will have a supply of
fresh air after finding the position of the child the operator will
guide the assembly of machine and move the wings will close up to
a certain limit which will not be harmful to the child and a small
pressure sensor equipment measure the pressure of the wings
which is going to be applied on child after grasping successfully
the operator will lift the whole mechanism with child

TENTATIVE BUDGET TO CARRY OUT PROJECT

20
SUMMARY

 It will take less time to rescue other than any conventional

method.
 It will provide safety to the children during the Rescue
operation.
 This project is based on rope and pulley system it will take
some energy which will be provided by the battery source.
 Less costlier than other method (like digging a parallel bore to
bore well where child is trapped) of rescuing child from Bore
Well.
 This project is very useful in developing a further advanced
system which will result in rescuing a child from bore well.
