Module 6: Gearing Up for Future: Curriculum Reforms

Self-Reflect:

Reflect on the statement below and comment: “The K to 12 is bound to fail it

is implemented hurriedly without thorough planning”

“This is the 6th year of our educational reform. It is more than a change in
curriculum-it requires a change of perspective; it requires a change of heart of those who
will implement it and bring it to fruition. It requires your cooperation, your initiative, and
your own contribution to make the reform work”.- A fact that we need to agree upon.
Everything needs to have a careful planning, plan that we need to execute in a
manner that will benefit us all. Therefore K to 12 will really bound to fail not because of
the curriculum but because of lack of educators to execute the process. Our government
need not to hurry because we are already in an era where students are globally
competitive, they rely on learning by doing, thus this wide range of knowledge give us
the opportunity to be successful, never the less what we need to do is be more patient in
every step of the way. Commission on higher education already commit itself to create a
harmonious working relationship with educators, creating more job and making sure that
they all provide quality education.
Educators are around the corner making their way to succeed in their chosen field,
we can now guarantee that this plan from our government will succeed, however
implementation is the most crucial path that we follow. These given scenarios are fact,
that without a good to go signal will fail us all.
I therefore conclude that immediate implementation will really not lead to failure,
rather it is an immediate adaptation of what lies ahead of us, change is peculiar and we
need to deal with it, anyway we are in a society that has its phase faster than we thought
and we need to immediately respond to it.

Module 7:
Outcomes-Based-Education: Basis for Enhanced Teacher Education Curriculum

Self-check:
Based on the activity 1: Finding OBE in the classroom, answer the questions below.
1. What did the teacher intend to accomplish in the lesson at the beginning?
 Teacher must prepare students adequately. This can be done if the teacher know what the
students to learn and what learning outcomes to achieve. Prerequisite knowledge is
important, thus a review is necessary at the start of the lesson.
2. Was it accomplished or achieved at the end? Has learning occurred?
 The teacher must be use a variety of teaching methods. The most appropriate strategy
should be used taking into account the learning outcomes teachers wants to the students
achieved. Also, to consider are the contents, the characteristics of the students, the
resources available and the teaching skill of the teacher. Even if OBE is learner-centered,
sometimes more direct, time-tested methods of teaching will be appropriate.
3. What learning outcomes was achieved?
 All students are expected to excel, hence equal expanded opportunities should be
provided.
4. During the activity, was there an opportunity for all the children to learn? Described.
 All students can learn and succeed. But not at the same time or in the same way. Because
every student has different capacity of thinking, understanding, skills and attitude.
5. How was the achieved learning outcome assessed? Explain.
 One of the great benefits of outcome-based education is that it makes students aware of
what should they learning, why they are learning it, what they are actually learning, and
what should they do when they are learning. All of these will include with the achieved
learning outcomes.
Self-reflect:

As a future teacher, reflect on your observations and report

in Finding OBE in the classroom and complete the sentences.
Choose only one to answer.
1. I like OBE because… In the future when I become a
teacher, I should…
I like OBE because it is time for us to reach the highest
standard possible in education. In the future when I become
a teacher I will make sure that my standard of teaching will
be realized so that all my students can always adapt to the
fast phase of our teaching method. Since OBE has been
adapted globally, it is our time to ensure that we can
thoroughly implement it, making sure that the vast range of
education is attained and that no one will be left behind.

2. I do not seem to like OBE because… In the future,

when I become a teacher, I should…
I do not seem to like OBE because of its fast phase
education. In the future when I became a teacher, I will
carefully educate the students base on the idea that they
have and the phase that they can follow.
