We choose to ask drivers whose ages were ranging from 18-55yrs old, licensed,

either driving public or private vehicles. The pie chart below describes our respondents
base on their gender.

As we can see, 10% of the drivers were female and the rest are male. Female
drivers rarely use the highway for safety matters. They are less capable in driving than
men according to one of our respondents.

We conducted a survey for the effectiveness of the highway based on drivers’


perspective. The following questions were asked and the results as follows:

For this question, 60% said ‘no’ and 40% said ‘yes’. Many said they like taking
this route because of its accessibility as an ‘escape route’ during rush hours as discussed
in Chapter 1. Majority of the respondents do not like taking this route because of the
dangerous curves.

Though some of the drivers liked to take this route, most of them (97%) said that
the road is not really safe enough.

As per question number 2, the pie chart shows the percentage of accidents per
driver who take this route. 33% of the drivers met or causes accidents on this route while
the rest luckily do not encounter accident on this route but they said that they knew
someone who does. This proves how risky the road is and how often accidents happen on
this route.

It said that 20% of the accidents happened on this route were fatal (causes death).
This signifies the danger in taking this road and the possibilities of death due to accidents
in this area. There were many testimonies about the accidents that our respondents
witnessed.

80% of our respondents approved road widening and they were glad to have it
done as soon as possible. As there were many accidents were observed in this route,
motorist liked to widen the carriage way so that they can see the incoming vehicles they
encounter and minimizes the occurring accidents on this route. While some (20%) said
that just implementation of roadway signs is nearly enough to lessen this problem. Road
widening, as they said, is just needs an additional budget for the government and may
cause some issues of corruption.
