According to the press release of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India


(TRAI),The country has the world‟s second largest number of fixed and mobile phone
users. July 31,2018 the number of telephone subscribers in India has reached 1.179 billion,
out of this 1.157 million are wireless subscribers. Due to the huge competition and the
number of telecom operators in India. The telecommunication industry in India serves the
TV broadcasting, Internet and telephone industries. Their system is currently changing into
the next generation network, employing various transmission system interconnectivity.

INTRODUCTION OF JIO
Reliance Jio infocomm limited, doing business as Jio, is a LTE mobile network
operator in India. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of reliance industries headquartered in
Mumbai. Provides wireless 4G LTE service network (without 2G/3G based services).It is
the only 100% VOLTE (Voice Over LTE) operator in the country, with coverage across all
22 telecom circles in India. The service were first beta-launched to Jio‟s partners and
employees on 27 December 2015 on the eve of 83 rd birth anniversary of late Dhirubhai
Ambani, founder of Reliance industries. Later service were commercially launched on 5
September 2016.

 Reliance communications owns and operates the world‟s largest next generation IP
enabled connectivity infrastructure which comprises 2,80,000 kilometers of fibre optic
cable systems in India, USA, Europe, Middle East and the Asia Pacific region.

 Reliance group ranks among India‟s top private sector business houses in terms of net
worth.

 The company has a good customer base.

 Reliance coves over 21,000 cities and towns and over 4,00,000 villages,(India)

 Reliance Jio is in process to set-up the 4G LTE infrastructure.

HISTORY OF JIO
 The company was registered in Ambawadi, Ahmadabad (Gujarat) on 15 February 2007
as Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited. In June 2010, Reliance Industries (RIL) bought a 95%
stake in Infotel Broadband Services Limited (IBSL) for ₹ 4,800 crore (US$690 million).

 Although unlisted, IBSL was the only company that won broadband spectrum in all 22
circles in India in the 4G auction that took place earlier that year.

 In January 2013 Infotel Broadband Services Limited was renamed as Reliance Jio
Infocomm Limited.In June 2015, Jio announced that it would start its operations all over
the country by the end of 2015.
 In October 2015, the company's spokesmen sent out a press release stating that the launch
was postponed to the first quarter of the financial year 2016–2017.

 Jio soft launched on 27 December 2015 with a beta for partners and employees, and
became publicly available on 5 September 2016.

 As of 31 May 2019, it is the largest mobile network operator in India and the third largest
mobile network operator in the world with over 322.99 million subscribers.

 On 5 July 2018, fixed line broadband service named Gigafiber, was launched by the
Reliance Industries Limited's chairman Mukesh Ambani, during the company's Annual
General Meeting.

MY JIO
 My Jio is the main prime app for the Jio sim and Jio services.

 The app offers various features like store locator which helps you find different Jio stores
near your place.

 Hotspot locator to identify various Jio net hotspot locations, usage details regarding your
voice, data &SMS.
JIO CHAT
 Jio chat is a Jio-owned chat messenger app which possesses all the similar features that
are present in the famous chat messenger apps like whatsapp, BBM, Line, We Chat, and
Hike.

 Through Jio chat, one can connect up to 5 friends through audio/video conference.

 It supports multi-language feature and one can create a group of up to 500 members.

JIOTV
 This is the great live TV platform from Jio where users get access to over 600+TV
channels including 100+HD channels and past 7 days aired shows.

 The app allows the users to set the reminders of shows and also lock their screen for zero
disturbing once the show is on.

 The app offers lots of TV channels in various languages like English,Hindi and other
regional languages.

JIO MUSIC
 As the name suggests, Jio Music offers a huge collection of Music from different genres.

 Just like other music, the Jio users are also allowed to download the music and create like
own playlist.

 The app consists of music of 20 Indian languages along with the International music.

 Jio music has the Dark Theme and the Light Theme.

JIO MONEY
 Jio money is a digital payment app from Reliance Jio.

 The app can automatically repeat purchases, give access to various offers and also give
you the transaction history.

 The coupons as of now are from outlets like M.O.D., Pizza Hut, Shop clues etc..
 To avail all the features from the different applications,the primary requirement is that
you must be a Jio user.

 Apart from this 5 applications, Jio offers some amazing features like cloud storage,
online newspaper, online shopping and many more through various apps like Jio drive,
Jio movies, Jio newspaper, Jio Mags, etc.

JIO NEWS
 When Reliance Jio launched, it didn‟t only offer low-priced recharge options for more
data, it also announced a suite of apps for its users.

 Jio Xpress News was the company‟s News aggregator app that touted to deliver latest
news stories in more than 10 Indian Languages and from over 500 sources.

 The new Jio News app is available for download via Play Store and Apple App Store.

 While the Jio news app is available on both Android and iOS, one can also access the
service on the web at (www.Jionews.com)

 “The launch of Jio news comes at the time when the nation will be glued to the Lok
Sabha and Assembly Elections 2019,IPL 2019,Cricket World Cup 2019 and other major

 The Jio news app is said to offer content from more than 12 Indian Languages, with more
than 250 newspapers,150+ live news channels, and over 800 magazines.

JIO BROWSER
 Jio Browser-the latest app by the telecom giant-is now available for Android users via
Google Play.

 Jio Browser app is touted to be a “Fast and Lite” Web browsing solution.

 To attract Indian users, the Jio browsers app has been given support for as many as 8
Indian Languages.
 Among other features, the Jio Browser from RIL is designed to support Regional
Languages.

 There are 8 different Languages including Bengali, Gujarat, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam,
Tamil and Telugu.

 By default, the browser works in English.

JIO CLOUD
 JioCloud is a cloud storage app for all your Photos,Videos,Documents,Audio,Contacts

JIO CALL
 The Jio4GVoice app for Android makes your existing 4G LTE smart phone ready for HD
voice and video calls over the Jio network.

 The app is available on the Google Play Store for free.

 Search for „Jio4GVoice‟ on the Play Store on your phone, and install it.

 Jio Call app will allow voice calling through fixed line connections.

 Consumers will be required to configure their 10-digit Jio Giga Fiber fixed line number
on the Jio call app, the listing on Google Play confirmed.

 Once configured, the official listing highlights that the app will allow voice calling
through the fixed line directly using a smart phone.

 The app will have a Fixed Profile for fixed line connection to enable calls.

Jio cinema
 Android users can download Jio Cinema from Google Play store, iOS users from
Appstore and Samsung Z2 device users from Tizen Store.

 Jio cinema also supports chrome cast so that you watch the consent on your big TV
screen.

 Jio Cinema takes near about 15MB of space on your phone.

 Jio Cinema also comes with parental controls so that you know what your kids are

JIO NET
 Jio net app is a mobile app that allows you to connect to Jio‟s high speed Public Wi-Fi
network „Jio Net‟.

 The app will detect the availability of Jio net and either connect automatically to it, or
notify you.

 Once connected to Jio Net, the app will authenticate you on Jio network by either using
your registered Jio ID or by validating an OTP sent to your mobile number through SMS.

 Once successfully authenticated, you can start browsing internet through Jio Net.

 The Jio Net app is currently supported only on devices with Android version 4.0 & higher
and iOS version 9.0& higher.

CONTROVERSIES OF JIO
 Reliance Jio has taken the country by storm with thousands of people queuing up to get a
much sought after sim card.

 With seemingly unbelievable introductory offers including free voice calls and cheaply
priced data packages,Mukesh Ambani is all set to make a whooper of a profit.

 Everything Jio have done till now is intended at making money.

 Their tariff plans may look unbelievable awesome,but they will make more money by
giving free voice calls than what the other companies make by charging make by
charging you for it.

 In the case of Jio, they have already laid an awesome fiber optic network which is
designed to even handle the 5G and 6G.

 So, they do not have much of the data bandwidth problem.


 Other telecom companies were primarily made to handle voice calls and they have
limited data bandwidth.

 Also, other companies do not own nationwide fiber network, so they have to pay to use
the fiber network of other companies.

 This is the reason other companies don‟t usually provide unlimited plans.

BETA LAUNCH
 The 4G services were launched internally to Jio's partners, its staff and their families on
27 December 2015.

 Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who is also the brand ambassador of Jio, kickstarted
the launch event which took place in Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai, along
with celebrities like musician A R Rahman, actors Ranbir Kapoor and Javed Jaffrey, and
filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani.

 The closed event was witnessed by more than 35000 RIL employees some of whom were
virtually connected from around 1000 locations including Dallas in the US.

COMMERCIAL LAUNCH
The company commercially launched its services on 5 September 2016. Within the first
month, Jio announced that it had acquired 16 million subscribers. Jio crossed 50 million
subscriber mark in 83 days since its launch, subsequently crossing 100 million subscribers on 22
February 2017. By October 2017 it had about 130 million subscribers.

"The idea of Jio was first seeded by his daughter, Isha, in 2011. She was a student at Yale (in the
US). She wanted to submit some coursework and she said, 'Dad, the internet in our house
sucks'," Mukesh Ambani recalled lately in press.

Network Jio owns spectrum in 850 MHz and 1,800 MHz bands in India's 22 circles, and
also owns pan-India licensed 2,300 MHz spectrum. The spectrum is valid until 2035. Jio shares
the spectrum with Reliance Communications. The sharing deal is for 800 MHz band across seven
circles other than the 10 circles for which Jio already owns. In September 2016, Jio signed a pact
with BSNL for intra-circle roaming which would enable users of the operators to use each other's
4G and 2G spectrum in national roaming mode. In February 2017, Jio announced a partnership
with Samsung to work on LTE - Advanced Pro and 5G.

Jio GigaTV

 Reliance Jio will offer its Jio GigaTV with the Jio Suite when the broadband services are
offered.

 The platform will use the bandwidth from its fibre network to offer TV channels which
offer 4K support, video calling and added other services.

 The GigaTV set-top box will support voice commands with access to 600 TV channels,
free collection of movies and millions of songs.

 Reliance Jio has been working on the next-generation network for its consumers.

 Jio's 4G network allows it to expand to 5G at lower incremental cost than others

 5G will possibly come to India by 2021

Jio Phone 3

 The Jio Phone 3 is the latest entry-level smartphone from Reliance.


 It was launched in August 2019
 The phone sports a 5-inch HD screen. It is powered by a 1.4 GHz processor coupled
with 2GB of RAM.
 The Jio Phone 3 sports a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing snapper. It draws
power from a 2800 mAh battery.
AFFORDABLE JIO SMARTPHONES
 Reliance Jio is working a number of large-screen smart phones from its own
Reliance Lyf , a subsidiary of Reliance Retail .

 The latest smart phones are said to support Jio's 4G networks at a budget pricing.

 Jio will also partner with some of the OEMs to launch a number of affordable
large-screen Smartphone for the mass market.

 The company is already in talk with US-based contract manufacturer Flex for a
number of large-screen affordable smart phones to be produced in India.

JIO (TIE UP WITH DISNEY & MARVEL)

 Reliance Jio has tied up with a number of content companies to boost its content
offerings.

 Reliance Jio is already a partner Star India for cricket, Zee for TV channels and web
series and online entertainment content.

 The company also tied up with online music streaming major Saavn to launch of
JioSaavn .

 Jio users will soon get free access to Disney Classics and Pixar animation.

 Free movies of Marvel and Star Wars with a host of international films as
well as locally created content with Jio in 2019.
JIO ENTERPRISE SERVICES
 Reliance Jio up next will enter the enterprise server market.

 The pilot launch has already happened, and the company will officially launch it by next
year.

 Reliance Jio will offer enterprise services for small and medium-sized businesses.

 The enterprise services will include unified communications, cloud services, managed
video conferencing, cyber security and more.

JIO SMART HOME


 Reliance Jio will soon launch its much-touted Jio Smart Home with Jio GigaFiber
and GigaTV services .

 The company will bring a complete connected home platform to offer services
connecting smart speakers, Wi-Fi extenders, smart plugs, door sensors, TV cameras,
audio/ video dongles, smart locks and various connected cameras.

 Jio Smart Home platform will allow to connect all the smart devices and control nearly
every appliance at home from an application.
JIO VOWI-FI SERVICE
 Reliance Jio will launch its voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) service in 2019.

 The trails are on and will start with Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and
Telangana.

 It will offer Wi-Fi calling to help users stay connected even without any cellular signal.

PLANNING AND MARKETING STRATEGY


Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited revolutionised the telecom sector. The scenario of Indian
telecom market before JIO entered it was:

i. There were more than 1 billion mobile users in India, out of which only 34% were
connected to the internet.

ii. Only 12% from these 1 billion used 3G data or above

Then came Jio which took the market by storm by oering Data Centric plans and free
promotional data.

The Biggest difference between JIO and others is its Optical Fibre Network. An optical bre is a
wire that converts your data signal into light and transfers them at the speed of light. Reliance Jio
has the longest fibre optic network in the country, ranging over 2,50,000 km and 90,000 eco-
friendly 4G Towers to provide the greatest 4G Coverage in all of India's 22 telecom circles.
Reliance Jio invested Rs 150,000 crore to put this in perspective { this is more than two times the
combined investment of Airtel, Idea, and Vodafone in the 4G Segment.
The success of Jio can be mainly attributed to its clear operational planning which can be
summarised into ve distinct steps:

1. Step One: Undercut the market price by giving attractive discounts and free promotional Data.

2. Step Two: Let everyone switch to Jio or at least buy a Jio sim to experience data for free.

3. Step Three: Unleash the power of bre optic network to give super

fast internet and make people realise that 1GB data is not really much.

4. Step Four: Grow your subscriber base by having good customer care and awesome plans.

5. Step Five: Recover your investment using the large number of users accumulated Once the
fibre optic network is laid down, the cost of operating is not very huge.

On the contrary, the network can be at minimal cost; therefore the only focus was to get more
internet users. If 60% of the people in India use 1 GB internet per month then Jio can recover the
initial investment in 3 years. The company also plans to rake in profits from its mobile apps
which include a variety of services which are described in subsequent sections.

CONCLUSION
Reliance Jio has become a very successful brand in India & providing customer is one of
their primary motives. It provides unlimited free calling and data service and SMS on the move
as people are more dependent on it in their daily lives like wide network coverage and good 4G
services. Because 3G service was unable to meet out customer needs and wants. That‟s why 4G
has been evolved for Indian customer. The time is not far Jio will start 5G in India with similar
schemes.
