Case of Murdered/Killed OFWs

 The name of the OFW is Joanna Demafelis and she worked in Kuwait

2. Cite whether he/she is legally authorized to work abroad (documented OFW)

 Joanna asked her aunt from distant to help her so that she can work abroad and according
to the article, Joanna may have been a victim of illegal recruitment.

3. Place of work, whether in hospital, factory, house helper, etc.

 She was a domestic helper/house helper in Kuwait.

4. Years of working abroad

 Joanna starded working on the year of 2014 and her last communication with her family
was on 2016.

5. Cite the case (from start up to the present)

 In the first story of the family of Demafelis, Joanna earned enough money for being a
housekeeper in  Parañaque for the she will be able to send home to her parents in Sara,
Iloilo. But after the super typhoon Yolanda, she and her family was homeless that led her
decisions to work in other country for her family. She asked helped for her aunt that
made her able to work in Kuwait. After the last call in 2016 with her family, they never
heard anything from her again so they asked help from OWWA and POEA but they
failed to find Joanna and her recruitment agency, Our Lady of Mt Carmel Global E-
Human Resources Incorporated, had already closed. But, Kuwaiti authorities found her
body in the freezer of the apartment where she worked. Her employers, Lebanese Nader
Essam Assa and his Syrian wife, Mona Hassoun had been arrested in the Syrian capital
of Damascus. On March 3, 2018 Joanna was laid to rest in her hometown.

 Syrian court finds Joanna Demafelis' employer guilty of murder. In April 2018, the two
suspect sentenced, in absentia, to death by hanging over Demafelis' murder.
